It doesn't void the contract so suddently all Verizon customers are no longer under contract. Verizon may at the discretion (depending on their view of the PR it would cause) waive the ETF of anyone who wants to cancel b/c of this change.

There is nothing on the horizon for a increase in text plan rates from VZW. There has been the change in the past and it does not affect the contract. It is a feature that can be added and removed at any time.
There is no way for you to get out of a contract if there is a change in the text plan. Even if they did change it, it wouldn't affect you because you would be on the same plan that you already have unless you don't have one...

You've GOT to be kidding! The point of them waiving the ETF (IF they do it) is in case someone wants to change carriers. I don't think you'll get away with what you're asking JUST to get a new phone...
