My area is completely digital but I do like to travel to some of the more popular destinations. My question is will analog roaming ever matter?

It sure did for me, when I was in Southern Oregon in October (aka the boondocks).

Didn't like how it drained the battery, but without it I woulda had no service at all. It worked pretty well too, suprisingly. 🙂

Analog is as close to a POTS quality call you will get to. But as you know it doesn't support even 1% of what digital can or any data services ect!

I was able to use my last phone in Yellowstone Park, where others could not, because of its analog capabilities. My new phones are strictly digital, so I won't have that ability anymore. Oh well.

Like I said in another post. Analog only covers about 10 million people and digital 250+ million. But yes Cingular announced it is shutting off its analog next year. If they do that is a big hit to verizon and sprint as they both use them. Verizon has some native analog as does alltel. But cingular has the largest AMPS network in the country.

I know that Michigan is an example, where Verizon users can no longer roam on Alltel analog SIDS 244 (can still roam on 244 digital though) & 260. I know that for Single ...

I'll stick with my AC 1, despite several efforts to move me to AC 2. I'd rather pay a roaming fee and be able to MAKE calls than not be able to send or receive one.
