From ZDNet today:

According to information released by Apple, the iPhone will not sync to Outlook or allow you to sync with other 3rd party PIM applications, will not allow you to view or edit Office documents, may not work as a modem for a MacBook or laptop, only responds to skin touch with no fingernail or stylus response, can only be used with Cingular (maybe for as long as 2 years), has a closed Mac OS X variant operating system, has no removable battery, has no memory expansion slot, has no GPS, and currently has no voice dialing capability.

Voice dialing is where you use your voice to command the phone to call someone.

Much like I commanded your mom last night.....

j/k ๐Ÿ˜

Internal battery is the gayest thing ever.

Ok so it has no GPS, but he used the GPS function of the iphone, that it supposedly doesn't have, in his key note speech when the phone was released...but somehow it doesn't have GPS.

That's right. Go figure.

Does Google Maps use GPS to figure out where I am?

It depends on your mobile provider. At this time, only Google Maps for Helio subscribers is enabled with GPS.

For other mobile providers, Google Maps doesn't use any GPS technology, even if your phone has a built-in GPS location device.

IT has A-GPS. You need to be on the network to use it.

Thats not real GPS. Real GPS requires a GPS chipset that can lock on satellites. The Nokias use Texas Instruments' (TI's) GPS5300 NaviLink 4.0. Its a single-chip solution for both GPS and A-GPS.

Who cares! It was never intended to be a PDA. I do not have a business nor need to sync with outlook. What I do want is a great mp3 player, ability to watch movies and tv shows (without all the converting), qwerty ability for text messaging, and a stylish form factor. This will be a great phone with some shortcomings but name me one phone that does not. ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't know if you are stating that an internal battery is a shortcoming or not. But you know what happens when the internal battery goes dead or cannot hold a charge for shiite? Time to replace the whole phone. And if you are out of your 1 year warranty and do not have insurance then you will have to purchase a new phone. Not elig...

Internal battery is not that big of a deal, Ipod batteries last quite a while and they are replaceable via apple for $99.

Second, who buys this phone and does not get insurance??? You would be a moron to do that!

Yeah this phone has its shortcomings, but its finally a phone that looks and works like a mac product! I'm sick of all of these windows mobile phones. I just excited that there is finally a "mac" based phone.

๐Ÿคจ I didn't think that this phone was going to be insurable to begin with. Is there confirmation on that?

thats so ridiculous! Well, maybe they will offer an apple care program with it in case it breaks down and I guess you could privately insure it if you lose it/break it/or if it gets stolen.

I assumed that Cingular would not offer insurance this phone as well. Apple will not cover lost/stolen/dropped in toilet/ran over with car coverage. Is there private companies out there that do offer insurance for cell phones other than lockline and asurian?

I have my two laptops insured via my home insurance under a special policy. It's a laptop specific policy that cost $50 bucks a year. I might be able to throw a phone like this on that policy.

Fortunately, the market for iPods, in general, is driven by youngsters. So while Microsoft may have some tactical successes in undermining the politics behind the scenes of the music player business, the ultimate customer, kids, the young-at-heart, and music lovers, are living in another dimension. Microsoft will have a tougher time turning dirty-tricks into a business advantage when the end customer is the affluent consumer, not the businessman.

Apple is readying significant enhancements to the software in its iPhone handset for later this year. The company takes cues from both the business and consumer worlds, finally letting third-party developers in on the action to bring games, utilities, and other apps to the phone.

Interesting article:

Keep kidding yourself. The battery is indeed a flaw. I never buy insurance. In fact I bought a European phone without an American warranty Used for $480.

You are just excited.......Thats all.

Watch the whole keynote address and the target market. There is too much emphasis put on the Q, Blackberry, Palm Treo and Nokia N62 to say that.
