"National" and "Long Distance" doesn't mean "No Roaming"
Lately I have been very suprised at the number of customers who call in about their high roaming charges. They say that they thought their National plan gave them roaming anywhere in the US. A National plan gives no roaming in the US WHILE ON AN AT&T NETWORK. Many customers also think that Long Distance means "no roaming." I'm pretty sure that most of these customers are dumb or just trying to get out of paying their bill, but I believe many of them are telling the truth also. Many reps and sales people are misinforming customers by telling them a national plan gives no roaming in the US. So whoever it is that is screwing up the definition of roaming GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. 👿

i agree, and this is one time when i don't think its sales i think its other CC reps who say this just to get the cust. (not to say sales is not doing it) but i believe in this case the majority does come from CC. and trust i know how you feel 👿

Gee... that will change when ATT heads to Cingular. It will be a big incentive for customers to get on a Cingular plan. Cingular offers "no roaming" and "no long distance" on it's National plans. We think "national" should mean "national".

National does mean national. AT&T wireless came out with a variety of plans to suit customer's need. In TDMA tech the plans were offered - either a "national" which provided nationwide coverage in all major metropolitan areas, or a "digital one rate" which provided COMPLETE coverage anywhere in the 50 united states. On the GSM network we specialize on the America National plan, which AGAIN gives customer complete coverage anywhere in the 50 united states, on ATT, CINGULAR, AND TMOBILE's networks with no roaming no long distance. However, isn't it true that even with Cingular, if a customer has a LOCAL plan with NATIONWIDE LONG DISTANCE INCLUDED they would be given local coverage whereas long as they stayed within that service area the can ca...

... yet you better believe if they went outside that area they would be billed for roaming and long distance charges, even with wonderful lovely cingular.. blah! if the customer has a national plan they wont have roaming charges, ever.. on our network on YOUR network on TMobile's network.. so..... WHO do you have roaming agreements with again? mmmmm ... lol ... thought so.

If you are on a Regional plan with Cingular, you can call long distance anywhere in the US with NO additional charges. If you leave your regional area, you will be charged Roaming charges. Cingular does not charge for Long Distance AND roaming at the same time. If you are roaming, you are not charged Long Distance, so you are wrong when you say that.
Not exactly sure what yopu mean by your comments, But when Cingular offers a NATIONAL PLAN, it IS national. When you are on a Regional Plan, you get regional calling area and roaming outside of that area.

It is the same with AT&T plans too. The old national TDMA plans (which are now discontinued) had Roaming areas off network. But the new GSM America national plans have no roaming in US, US Virgin Islands, PR no matter who's tower you are on. Add 9.99/month and you get canada too. It's a really sweet deal. I wish i could get it up here in canada.
