Cingular taking over in October?

We've all probably heard that October would probably be the month that Cingular takes over AT&T Wireless. Now, with October practically here, what part of the month is it most probable to occur? I was reading today that this is day 180 of FCC's timeline, can we expect some kind of statement any day now?

Your guess is as good as anyone else. Some analysts are predicting it could take up to two years (i think the artical was posted on one of the forms earlyer today or a few days ago). I can see this. It takes about a year for AWS to merge with a small company. This is one of the largest mergers in wireless history.

I think you may have misunderstood that article...maybe not. I am pretty sure though, that when something in the article referred to the merge taking two years, was that the complete integration of both companies [and systems] may take that long. Otherwise, the merge will more than likely take place this month, and if not, before year end. Just trying to clear that up. 🙂

Just wanted to clear some things up... If the FCC says yes cingular will then claim ATTWS assets and affiliates and ATTWS as a wholly owned subsidiary of Cingular... That is as good as saying Cingular will own all of ATTWS bases... Now it will take close to two years to completely Migrate both companies into a single company... That's what the analysts are stating... All revenue within that period will still belong to Cingular but the ATTWS named won't be phased out until the integration is complete... Make sense?

No. (If and) When the FCC announces approval, AT&T will be put entirely under Cingular's ownership and control. The integration of the systems won't be immediate, I realize, and have stated this very idea before. But you are absolutely, entirely wrong on the AT&T Wireless brand idea. Cingular has already made an agreement with AT&T Corp. stating that upon announcement of the FCC's approval the AT&T Wireless brand name will be reverted back to AT&T Corp. exactly 6 months post-announcement. So if you want to believe that the AT&T Wireless name won't be phased out until the integration is complete, give it about 6 months.

"They expect the licensing agreement
to remain in effect through the closing of AT&T Wireless' merger with Cingular...

From the last artcile I read the FCC and DOJ both have not approved the merge yet. Need approval for both to move forward.

An obvious statement. However, yesterday (Septemeber 2😎 was day 180 of the FCC's standard transaction timeline. Generally, the FCC comes to a decision on day 180, though the decision my not be released for weeks after. The FCC could very well have made their decision yesterday and are making preparations to make the announcement. Whenever that may occur, we all shall see.
