Buying phones after Nov. 14

Once "Day One" gets here, will ATTWS customers be able to purchase phones from ATT? Would I be able to add a new line of service, if I'm an existing customer? I don't mean adding a line to a sharable plan, but a separate line.

Not sure if it will be possible to buy an AT&T Wireless phone after "Day 1". I highly doubt through Care, but have -no- idea about retail.
I am pretty sure however that all new activations will have to be on a Cingular plan w/ a Cingular phone

Thanks! Tha's what I thought. I'm still considering getting that Audiovox 5600 phone that requires a separate line! I guess I better make up my mind soon! Too bad they won't let me get that on a sharable plan! Sure would make my life easier!

We have been told that you will have to purchase a Cingular phone and no AWS phones will be avalable through care. You will not be able to add a line to a AWS account but you can upgrade your lines to Cingular phones and add a line (shared or not shared) To your new cingular account. Only AWS phones you will be able to get is through Warranty or Insurance.

Hmm, that's not what they said this morning when I called customer service. I also talked with someone at retail. They both said existing customers could add sharable lines and separate ones too. Hmm, what a mess! I guess I'll just add before Monday, just in case. I'm sticking with my ATT plan for now. There isn't a plan that can come close to it with Cingular.

Well I had training last night for more updated training in praparedness for mon, and its true,as of mon, careis not selling phones anymore, when cingular took over they stopped production of all att branded phones,as well as sim card production.

Also if a customer of the "former" att switches over to cingular they can't go back to att plans again, there is no buyers remorse on the plans so once you swoitch you can't go back, there is not ixing of two plans, if you need to change your att plans for more or less minutes, you MUST SWITCH TO CINGULAR PLANS,

😕 not correct as far as buyers remorse i believe thats not true i think i read somewhere that they will be able to go back but dont quote me on that ............ but as far as current AWS customers being able to keep plans and make changes to them i know they will be able to do so the only thing they wont be able to do is purchase new ATT phones, in other word if they want a new phone they must go to a cingular plan if they want to update their plan they could stay with ATT plan......for now anyway 😉

We were told that indirect agents with leftover inventory would be allowed to sell through that inventory, which would require activating someone on an AWS rate plan, so I think that the phones will be available here and there. I know I have a few left that I probably won't get rid of before Monday.

No. He is right. I just got merger expectations training. It is very specific. If you migrate you CAN NOT go back to an AWS plan and phone. This i got in writing 5 mins ago.

i just got written e-mail in regards to this, the custoeras of nov 15,2004 if they wish to change their rate plan,Mustbe willing to migrate to a current and available plan, as of nov 15,2004 theplans are not current and available therefore customer is locked into the plan theyare on at time of expiration.

The T&C states the customer can stay on the service for the"life" of the plan, since the plan is expired. they would have to migrate to a current plan being offered, in this case a cingular plan!!

My question was only about adding a line, not changing my plan to a Cingular one. I know that even when switching plans, you can't always go back to an old one - like when the plan is not available any longer (expired).

I am getting conflicting answers from this forum and the telephone customer service/retail store.

If anyone here is absolutely sure, one way or the other, can you tell me this...will I be able to add a separate line to my account with ATT after Sunday? I'm hearing "Yes" at retail, and over the phone. Im also being told I can add a line to my sharable plan, if that's what I want to do.

I have no interest at all in switching th Cingular right now. Maybe later, but not now.

After sunday if you want a line of service ,either a new service or a add on line of service it will be done as a cingular line, so if you want to add on you woulds need to migrate your current line to cingular and have your add on there as well, otherwise you'd have 1 line on cingular plan and 1 line on att

Guess I'll be getting that line before Monday! I'll be sure to do it before "day one." Why in the world would the phone rep and retail person tell me the wrong thing? This issue seems pretty clear cut. Thanks for your help!

In another word...NO. You cannot add a AWS phone to an AWS shared plan or family plan. No AWS phones will be avaliable and all AWS plans new activations will stop. As of right now this is the word from Cingular. Welcome to the NEW CINGULAR! If you wish to add additional lines on to a family plan you WILL have to migrate all your phones to a cingular family plan and add a line to that.

I'm sorry, but this is incorrect. Cingular doesn't want to encourage it, but I know that indirects can sell through their inventory for a period of time and sell AWS rate plans as well. In fact, I just read the protocols for the direct side too, and she can add a new AWS line if it is a circumstance where she already has an AWS account and wants to keep the billing together, which seems to be the exact circumstance she is describing. In that case she would be directed to AWS telesales. Or, like I said, she can check around with indirect agents.

Just in case, I'm adding an additional line this weekend! I need it by Nov. 23rd, anyway. I'm just gonna add it to the sharable plan. It'll only be one week earlier than I really need it.

When I buy this separate line in the next couple of days, if I change my mind in a few weeks and want to turn this separate line into a line on my sharable plan, can I do that?

Just to be clear: I have 3 lines on my sharable plan now. I need a fourth line for my son. I think I'm gonna buy him a separate line, so he can have that SMT5600. Will I have the option later on to move his separate line to a line on my sharable plan - so all 4 of my lines will be on the sharable plan?

Okay, I promis that's all. Thank you for your help!

The offical policy is no...You may get some nice reps that will do it for you if you ask nicely within the first few months of merger (there are alot of policys like this that seem to get streached) but if you wait too long then you probably will be forced to migrate to Cingular

Getting your son an smt5600?! Wow!

Just be advised that it's not eligible for coverage under insurance (lockline) and if you have warranty related issues with it, you will have to get in touch w/ Audiovox to resolve. Warranty exchange doesn't handle the SMT 5600.

And yeah. On and after Day One, you won't be able to make any changes whatsoever to your ATT Wireless plan. You will have to migrate to Cingular in order to do anything... new phone, new feature, new plan, delete features... whatever.

Why anyone would tell you differently, I don't know. Perhaps they had not had the migration training yet. *shrugs* 😕

Of course, I mean new phone with a contract discount... 'cause you aren't gonna be able to renew contract on attws.

(fyi... attws NAS in our call center has turned into CNA, cingular new accts. they won't be activating new attws accts after Day One.)

This is direct from the cingular update for day 1, aka monday nov 15,2004

migration policies
"Why can't customers reverse migrate from orange(cingular) to blue(ATT)?"

A)the eventual goal is to have a unified scubscriber base. While this is certainly a future goal, the goal is to move forward, not backward!Remind the custoer that once the migration is performed they cannot reversemigrate onto a plan that is no longer being offered to the public.

Mmm...My training I just had 30 seconds ago said no AWS phones. They have been stressing that nothing is writen in stone and policy can change but they are really leaning on getting everyone over to cingular. If you want to add lines to AWS plan then do it now. You'll still have your 30 days so if on monday you want to do cingular instead you have that option but you will probably not have the option of getting a AWS add a line after monday.

🙄 i know that any add a line, upgrade or new service IS CINGULAR. but if a current att customer wants to lower or raise plan or go form local to national they still will be able to 😉
