Cancelling plan. Question about phone.

Hi. I just got signed up for AT&T on the 14th and later found this site with info saying that the AT&T phones doent support the cross-tower selection (ENS). So I'm going to cancel and get signed up with Cingular. I have a couple questions.

Q1:Am I better off migrating to Cingular or cancelling and then signing new?
I'm guessing I would get to keep the phone and sell it on ebay or something, although I'm not sure if the rebates would be valid after a migration.

Q2:If I cancel instead of migrate, what happens with the phone? If i don't return it to the store that I bought it from, does AT&T send me a bill for some crazy amount?

Yep. If you don't return the phone in new condition, you'll be billed the balance between the cost of the phone and what discounted price you paid.

OK. That answers Q2.

What about Q1?

Thanks

I forgot to ask... are you within your first 30 days?

If so, you can cancel your attws acct, return your phone and go to Cingular. Otherwise, you'll have to migrate and... purchase another phone anyway.

I'm not sure that it wouldn't be a bad idea to just call up attws customer care and ask them about it. There may be some rule that I'm not aware of.

If you are outside your first 30 days, it would be best to migrate your service. That way, you don't incur an early termination fee.

Perhaps someone from care could chime in here...

ya. still in my 30 days.. got it on 11/14/2004, one day before the Cingular takeover. It's a V505 and not listed as a Cingular phone so pretty sure its not ENS capable, so I would want to get a new phone that supports ENS.

if its w/in 30 days, just return it and start anew w/ cingular. don't even bother asking AT&T Wireless Care. and FYI, prices are better online at cingular.com than at a retail store
