The AT&T assets in the Oklahoma City market are being sold to Alltel..yuk. Anyway, since I am being sold to a regional carrier is there any way that I can transfer my 3 lines to Cingular and not have an ETF on them?

Thanks
John

Unfortunatly not, Oklahoma City is one of the 16 markets that cannot migrate to Cingular plans or products at this time. It's up to the FCC when this would be possible---if it ever does.

That's what I am thinking as well. However, it will probably not be allowed until Alltel officially closes on the deal sometime in teh 1st quarter of 2005.

A letter is usually mailed out to the customers of the old provider (in this case AWS), or it may possibly appear as a message on your monthly invoice.

Now, what this means in regards to porting your numbers, I don't know. You may be able to cancel the service w/o and ETF, but you may not be able to port the numbers.

Just be patient and stay tuned. Nothing is happening until the deal officially closes.

The week of the 15th of November I called Cingular in Nashville and then migrated my AT&T account over to Cingular without an ETF. MY AT&T cell number was ported over to Cingular.

The problem is that those of us in OKC are being sold with the AT&T assets. :-(

Some people were able to migrate their numbers because their divested account had not yet been loaded into the system that checks that sort of thing.

Example: on the 15th, my wife's regular OKC account was eligible for migration. Three days later it was not because it had finally been put into the system.

For those that slipped thru, Cingular could face large fines from the FCC for allowing those accounts to migrate.

Now, my question is this: can divested accounts simply PORT (not migrate) their number to another carrier, or does the number have to stay with the carrier that bought the divested accounts?

Also, from what I read in an article here in OKC, I'm afraid that ETF might still be valid on those accounts with contract...

Trep,

Even though you and your wife are in a divested market, you still have the freedom of choice to move carriers.

Yes, you can port out of ATTWS to Cingular. However ETF's are still applicable if you are still in contract. I would wait until you are done with your contract.

Another tidbit of information. Depending how long you have left, I would sign up with Cingular, don't port the numbers yet and crank your ATT plan down to the cheapest possible. Then when your contract is done, port your numbers. Or, keep the new Cingular issued number, as you can set your ATT voicemail to let friends and family know of your new number. I recommend this to my customers who have a couple of months left in their contract. No sense paying $175 p...

Will, you can do this without "renewing" the contract? I thought any change in plan required re-upping your contract.

As long as it is not a promotional element plan. Example: The $39.99 plan with 1000 minutes. If you switch to a promo plan, then it will require a contract. Any of the GSM ATT and Cingular plans, the customer can move up and down with no penalty to their contract.

You won't have a new contract as long as you don't add any promos on the plan (n/w min, m2m, ld, etc.) Most people lower it down to a $19.99 bare bones, emergency use only type plan, with no promos.

Thanks Will. I work for AWS (now Cingular) in OKC and have thought about those options. My only concern was that we had not yet been told in our call center was whether or not the old AWS number in divested were at least eligible for porting. I assumed they were, but with all the FCC regs, I wasn't 100% sure.

Unfortunately, my wife just entered into a new 2yr contract back in September....which was stupid on our part since I figured the merger announcement was iminent. But her TDMA phone was failing and we needed to do something. I guess I didn't think that OKC would become a divested market.
