We just talked to our National director and he said that ALL call centers nationwide HAVE to use their REAL last names and not fake ones.
We find this to complete BS, becasue when we call other centers for transfers we have been asking them if they are allowed to use fake last names or not, and we have not found *1* center that can not apply for fake last names and/or use them right now.
We are now compliling a list of such calls to give to him to show he's wrong. If you work in such a center and don't want to be giving out your real name to wierdos then we suggest you do the same.
...
We were given the opportunity to use a pseudo last name. We just have to submit a form to our supervisor's and as long as the pseudo name is approved, there's no problem. That was as of the first of the year.
We are a CSE center, but I'm currently a blue legacy rep on the new save team.

Yea i know, the ops here are saying we can not do that we HAVE to use our real ones. But I refuse, so until they let me use a pseudo I'm just using my first name.

Regina. Actually I have been fighting this for a while, and the ops have been saying its a Cingular standard that we have to follow (blaming the "only use last name" on cingular). Well today, the call center directory finally fessed up and said it is his decision to make us use our real names and not follow EVERY OTHER CALL CENTER. DAMN!
...
I also did some research, I am in the same center and our night SUPs are saying QA will not unresolve a call if we do not use our last name. They seem to be more worried about migrations at this point.
Let me know if anyone has unresolved a call for not using their last names.

They have to start unresolving calls without last names starting Feb 1 2005

Unfortunately, it is a Cingular standard. I have been an org rep for 2+ yrs. You are allowed to use a pseudo name(upon approval). However the name you use, would actually have to sound "real."
Believe me, many of us have had this issue for awhile. But since Cingular is one of the highest paying jobs in my area(midwest), we have to suck it up 😡
...
when they ask who your supervisor is do you give them one of the middle management mooks, you know the ones, the vp's that are listed as your supervisor in the directory? The guy who is really the supervisor for all the call centers?
That's who I'm planning to give as my supervisor when the customers bitching about some credit, or anything else for that matter. Send that nasty email to @cingular.com
if my name is no longer proprietary, neither is his.
if enough customers send email to the middle management folk, that will be the end of this last name BS.
It's alright for the meat shield to give out there last name, but it'll be a little different when those people join the pointy end of the stick.
I've talked to my TL and it is a coachi...

I don't see the big. what are the customers gonna do, travel to canada and hunt you down?

I can tell you what the problem is. My center isnt allowing us to use pseudo names because ppl were submitting names that didnt sound real. I have an ex that beat me and is psychotic i had to move to where i am now because he was stalking me and as CSE we serve the area he is from. So now i have to worry about that. And i cant use a pseudo name because of the guidelines set in place so YES it is a big deal.
...
It's not so much that the psycho customer will hunt me personally down.
He will probably stop at hunting down someone with my last name locally and beating the crap out of him, for no other reason than he "thinks" it's me.
Is Cingular going to make that right? they probably won't even know it happened, and even if they did they'd wash their hands of it.
It's about perception and responsibility.
Let the company be responsible for it's own policies and enforcement and not make it appear that I personally am responsible for the customers poor service or the credit they feel they deserve.
As for the over reaction? If you talk to customers all day, you know they are out there. Not many, but enough to make this bad policy. That's not even beg...

I just curious (and amused) about why anadians care about giving out your last name when no customer is anywhere near you .

Thats BS, check this out from the Blue Hat Advisor on Jan 4:
"New Call Opening Procedures – Effective January 1, 2005
Although the below call greetings were published last month, in an effort to further align with Orange, we will now identify ourselves by both first and last name when opening a customer call.
If for any reason you are uncomfortable with utilizing your legal last name, you may register a pseudonym last name by requesting Pseudo Last Name Request Form from your Supervisor. You must complete the Pseudo Last Name Registration Form and have your Supervisor approve it before using a pseudo name.
Once you choose to use a pseudo name, it must be used on every call and in all notes. If you decide to go back to using you...

Not for all unfortunately, the site director here (regina) is making up his own rules and says we still have to use our last names.
This is the same guy who violated labor laws during the cingular training even though I told him it was not right to do so. (here they have to scedule your lunch withing 5 hours of you starting. they were making people wait 6-7 hours before their lunch started just to get the training done. There was no reason why they couldnt have 30 min break in the training--they have done many times before).

Dude, I'd be reporting him higher up the chain of command. Or, report him thru the Ethics Line @ 888-552-4171. That's just wrong.

As a rep working for a 3rd party vendor our Ops Manager has chosen not to allow our reps to utilize this form. Of course she said that it was a "client" decision, but I expect that our managers just don't want the extra work. Really nice. 👿

Yep, that's in Blue Hat, but we still can't get pseudonyms in our center.

Print this off and submit this to your director. It is directly against canadian law and human rights to force you to submit ANY personal information that may or may not put you directly at risk for your personal security. This document has been prepared by both me and a lawyer, and it is legaly viable.
It has come into contention that employees as a individuals have forfeited their right to personal security in regards of censorship of their last name, and as a result of negligence towards said rights as a Canadian citizen, it has jeopardized their ability for continued employment. This is not only illegal, but it is against any morale fiber that I am sure you or any other normal human being may or may not have.

Actually, BLUE reps do have to use their last names, however, if we go to our managers with a 'fake' last name form, there is a possibility that we are able to have funky, not our last names! Personally i dont understand the point of not using your last name.... its too much of a hassle to notate into accounts.... 🙂

i went to my sup today and asked for one of those fake name sheets and they said that they are not available. they said that if i dont use my last name then they will be forced to let me go. i gave them my badge and said take it they said just try and adjust and they put me on IWOF orders 😎

I forwarded the link to the pseudo name form to our Ops manager and my manager. No response from my manager, but Ops got flustered and sent back a nonsensical response that basically amounted to 'too bad'. It would be great to strike, but they would be able to repopulate the floor inside of a week with all of the new training rooms they built. You know that was probably the reason they put them in, every policy change seems to result in mass exodus here. I've been quietly polling employees here and there about unionizing. We would have to have most everyone to do this correctly. Figure into that equation that the last person to say "union" out loud got fired before she knew what was happening. Per the policy manual, they forbid union pa...
