ok i know this topic is ancient...but heres my thoughts on the last name rule.

1. company policy right now is to use ou r last names. it sucks i know. lots of debate on using fake/psuedo names. the center i work at is gettin pretty strict about this. (its freakin cold up here too) so it appears we are stuck untill something happens.

2. the chances of some psycho trackng you down either with aletter bomb, killer bees or a homemade shiv are about as likley as being struck by lightning, or winning the lottery. now of course people get hit by lightning alot....and i hear the lottery has a few winners in its history. so who knows?

3. nothing about this policy will change unless enough people make noise about it. i suggest a pettiion in your call center boycotting the last name policy. unfourtinitly since the center im at..(not sure about others) but we are not unionized...wich means if they can you for failure to adhere to policy your pretty much screwed. but i would sign a petettion.

4. as far as whats legal in canada, like i said before ive been forwarded documentrs that state only government employeess, or companies conytracted to government work are coverd by the protection of personal info act. wich does not play to our favour. since legally we have nothing to back us. all tho the labour board may have something i havent seen yet.

5.altho im sure such a nice person as yourself 🙄 is concerned with your saftey from a lunatic with a pet alligator and a chainsaw tracking you down after work...if you use a fake name, what are the chances a pissed off customer will track down someone who really has your "fake" name? could get kinda messy...so there is that to consider. me, ill stick with my elf name. that way no chance of someone even spelling it right...let alone tracking me down.
or someone else for that matter.

6. ive been told by teammates im a psycho....so what happens when a psycho tracks down a fellow psycho? im thinking we go to timmies and have coffeee and plot to take over the world. its win win! see i have this plan were i build a giant lazer in space....

just a few points to add on. take a look at privacy polices weve had in the past and have now. we arent supposed to give our location, reason is securiity. ive been told they dont want some nut bombing the place. hmmmmm well is it not just as simple to track down an employees adress based on name, as it is to track down a businiess address based on location? and as for the "no fake names" ever called the prepaid dept? yea i REALLY believe that guy is named "chuck" or "homer" or "rocky". more like acmeadefuehusystenaus hagystewrsasdgdss. or something. reason? "oh we dont want american people knowing that att/cingular outsources to other countries, so they use fake names." oh come on! do they think americans were born yesterday? everyday a cal...

Good point, why were they so concerned about our security before, but yet they dont seem to care about it now?
I also agree with what you said about how the India call center gets to use fake names. Are they in more danger than us or something? Its seems more likely for an angry American to show up in Canada then in India, so why do they get to use fake names but not us? Half the time when I speak with one of those reps, the only thing I do understand is their name. And quite often its a very common name like Mike Johnson or something. Like come on, its pretty obvoius that its a fake name.
But I am not so concerned with people comming to hunt me down and kill me b/c I had to follow company policy and deny a customer the $200 CR he/she fel...

thats a good point. this last week alone ive had 8 callers all of who mentioned identity theft, or upset about security on there accounts, such as passwords. this compan y appears to be more conerned with our customers security then the security of its own emnployees. when it comes to the higher ups we dont even have names. were just rep 8785684354395489753 out of call center 43905743098750437603. irs messed. im thinking next week ill identify myself as "thanks for calling cingular this is 38574892753 speaking how can i assist you"....anyone have one an extra space lazer engine laying around?

I am alot more concerned with Identity theft. No wonder its becomming more of a problem here then ever before. We are being pushed into releasing our personal information to the general public.
So its not the wackos with guns I'm worried about, its the wackos with brains who have the knowlegde to profit from your Identity, that make me feel uneasy sometimes at work.

BAM. That's exactly what happened to me, and why I have a Pseudo name now.

and i was trying to point out, the problems existing with last name policys. you say im unintelligent because i have poor spelling. well being distracted by off topic and irrelevant information is also a sign of unitelligence. if you want to bash my grammer, start a new thread. heres an idea for a title. "rep10f2000 cant spell worth ****" or maybe "why cant people spell properly?" i believe the lounge is the place for such topics.

Maybe you should get back to that job your not having problems doing, instead of trying to stay off topic, I though I made an interesting point earlier, but all you want to discuss is bad grammer.

But hey, its passing time.

Look, not all of us here are English majors, so please excuse the bad grammar. If it's legible, I personally think that it's fine. I could understand everything he was trying to say, and since this is a forum, you don't have to type perfect.

I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about I mean if you have really extenuating circumstances then fine i can see the reasoning. But honestly people have you tried to type your full name into a search engine and saw how many results come back. sure there are some uncommon last names but come on people it's not like they are gonna know for sure you are in canada what province and if they do they are too scared to come to canada anyway what with BSE and frigid cold temps they would freeze solid at the boarder. Or have one of our beers and be so drunk they forgot what they came for hahaha

Chill out people we aren't given them our SIN#'s or phones numbers so it would be pretty hard to steal our identity. The only reason this is an i...

If you check Primus you will find that listed as proprietary information is employee information.
If they want to get all pissy with me over it, and I have already sent an e_mail to my TL about it, until they change the written proprietary information policy i will not give out my last name.
period.
it ain't about the psycho chasing me down. It's about the psycho now having a name that he can chase down.
I don't expect Mr. nutbar to show up in the GWN. Frankly, I expect some poor Joe Bloggins in Armpit, Ca same as our friendly customer Mr.Nutbar to get a brick thru his window.
It's about responsibility. And the Corporation shifting it onto our backs.

very well said. i agree....if they want to use us as a meat shield they got another think coming. i did not take this job to be cannon fodder. if i get anyone asking for my superiors i provide em the names of the high up brass and corrospondance address. let the head honchos deal with the nut jobs. after all they get paid the big bucks to do what? sit around and talk about rep accountibility? these are the same people who make policys...they should be the ones to defend them. not us. they made there bed they should sleep in it.

Easiest way for something to get fixed?
Make it a head ache for the brass.
6 months and 3 tl's later i still don't have my own primus login.
but when tks wasn't working I just filled out the adjustment form, tks'd at someone elses station at the beginning of the week and just filled out the form and low and behold that is fixed by tuesday.
once those guys start getting personally addressed nastygrams in their email this last name crap will come to a screeching halt.
