I was wondering what people thought about third party call centers (ex. West Teleservices/Convergys answering ATT calls). Personally, I think that they are a bad idea. Employees for these types of companies usually don't receive as good as benefits as regular ATT/Cingular employees, and they are treated as though they are disposable. There is a lack of corporate loyalty and enthusiasm when you work for a 3rd party vendor. I have worked for a third party vendor for two years now and it is the worst job I have ever had. Any thoughts?

I have mixed feelings on the subject.
I work for a third party vendor and have been for the last year and a half. We get pretty good benefits (insurance, paid time off, etc) and the hours are to my liking. Pay isn't great to be sure, but it is enough for me, a single person, to live on.
I am rather loyal to ATTWS and have no ill will toward them. I help my customers and give them excellent customer service pretty much 100% of the time. Of course, in my position I talk to people who are ticked off for one reason or another and by the time I get to talk to them, they're often beyond reason.
However, the big downside to working here is the fact that we are made to feel like we are disposable... like the "client" can drop us at any ...

I have a good friend that works in Sales for Blue and Orange, and the paid time off, reg pay and what not is totally different for her than for me which i dont understand... you might as well for the the Corp company and get better pay and benefits and what not, and still do your job....
and as far as outsourcing... as long as you are not in india, i can deal! : )
and ya know...all our jobs are only secure until the end of the day!
...
I know what you mean.
My job is secure as long as most of my department in in India. 😁

I don't know maybe you should get a different job...but then again thats just me.

unfortunatly, its not that easy. Its like telling a 400 pound man who complains about his weight to "just lose it". doesn't happen overnight and you have to sacrifice some things. some of us are stuck here for now.
...
i feel that. i also work for west and there is no incentives here to keep ther employees. the job is ok. just no enthusiasm.
...
How can you have enthusiasm when you come to work everyday and wait to get screwed? The job itself would be fine if we could get the whole of upper management dumped and replaced. I'm tired of coming to work and watching them over-hire and then go pin happy and start canning people left and right. We are not appreciated for the good work that we do. We are not appreciated for anything. Do you know what you are? You are a butt in a seat and as far as West is concerned, that is all you will ever be. How enthusiastic can we be?
