Nokia 5140! First Walky Talky ATT Phone!!!

😁 It is not a flip but it's a start. It has a camera,(YES) a flashlight,(WOW) color screen,(DUH) and finally that superb walky talky feature!(FINALLY)

The above link SHOULD take you to the main 5140 page. If not, go to www.nokia.com and search for 5140

There's still no announcement about which carrier is going to use it. But it does say that it is planned for release in 2nd qtr of 2004. I doubt AWS is going to release PTT that quickly.

I was at the event in NYC in November where Nokia announced the 5140. ATTWS co-hosted the event, and I was able to try a 5140 live on the ATTWS EDGE network. This was a week before AT&T had even launched EDGE, and they already had PTT up and running on the live network - and running quite well, I might add. (It blows away Verizon PTT, that's for sure.)

I guarantee you that AT&T will launch the 5140 and PTT this year. They plan to launch it Q2. Based on what Nokia presented about the implementation procedure, (set up a couple central servers and that's it,) and what I saw in November, (real, working PTT on the live ATTWS network,) I see no reason why ATTWS...

PPS: I should add my usual disclaimer about how delays are the norm in this industry. So while I don't currently see any reason why AT&T won't launch PTT in Q2, of course things don't always go perfectly and according to plan. Oddball problems could crop up late in testing, and delays could happen.

But I have more faith in Nokia to deliver on-time than, say... Motorola. And I have much more faith in AT&T Wireless to deliver on-time than, say... Verizon Wireless. The track records speak for themselves.
