Does this problem happen everywhere you go like at least 5-6 miles away? If yes, it's the phone. If no then your phone is probably registering with the system but cannot get anything more then a connection through 911 and 611. Try calling 611 to see if it goes through, then try calling a standard number. Of course only try this during the time the phone is displaying that message.

yeah it has happened in several different places around town. it happens at least twice a day.
ill just be sitting at work or at home or a friends house and it will beep and have no signal bars and say emergency calls only.

why would it only register with 911 or 611 though if its not the phone ?

Do you turn the phone off/on at least once a day?

A phone can call those numbers even if is NOT connected to a number, so the problem can be determinded based on what the phone can and cannot connect too.

I am going on lunch now so I will check back in 30 mins.

I have experienced problems with my phone that when I don't turn the phone off/on at least once a day, my phone will do weird things like go back to the SIM screen or just be off.

I now turn my phone off/on at least once a day and the problem is solved. Try this see if it works.

Let me ask you this, are you in Cingular systems or AWS?

link, trust me we hear that issue at least 3-5 times a day when taking blue calls that why there are two things that will cause that to happen:

1)You using a LG phone, there is a known issue involving the compatability of the sim cards with the LG phone, if you have it then you to cll blue care they will need the primus sollution, for this primus issue ATTW36501

2)When just before the merger was announced the company attws lost their roaming agreement to use share netowrk coverage with other carriers, so where you used to pick a another companies tower you now have no authorized access, so you get SOS emegency calls only. They will let you call into care for your carrier or 911 for emergency use, since if they didn't it would be a FCC v...

its the service, its goona be like that for ANYONE that stays on the ATTWS service.Simple as that, you can sell it, but it won't help who ever buys it. as this is happening for everyone who has attws service, and will continue till everyone migrates over.

I was attempting to give an answer because I hadn't seen anyone else post a response, something to tide him over until somebody else responded.

I work in TDMA and the number one cause I have seen of people not getting service anywhere they go is they don't turn the phones off/on at least once a day.

I am up to 8 people now with that problem that has solved it.

son by you turning the phone off and on is what is known as "power cycling' or force registration. The simple fact that is a temp sollutipn within a few minutes it happens again, its a known service issue.

I am dual trained on tda and gsm blue, as well as trained on cingular plans and servies.these issues happened within last 2-3 m...

I know it's called "power cycling" I use simple understandable terms anyone can understand. I'm sure a few people have been confused at the term "power cycle."

I have been doing the "power cycle" option greater then the last 2-3 months, I even received a kudos from TSD stating that I did my job really well.

... and don't call me son, my biological father thinks I hate him, I don't need 2 fathers.

Number 2 is not entirely accurate. The service for the divested customers cannot be interfered with due to the DOJ and FCC rulings. Why is this important? Unless Cingular has implemented some sort of coding into their SIM cards, the divested customers can and will maintain their service level. This is the experience in our market. The only issues we have had have been in the TDMA network, and only in the non-divested areas of Oklahoma. Cingular and ATTWS had nearly the same footprint anyhow before the merger due to the roaming agreements. The most likely issue would be number 1 not number 2.

See thats whole point speedy, before the merger, the roaming agreement was being dissolved, so the only things the former attws and still attws customers can access the att network, the only difference is that soon those divested will be handed off to the new carrier they were sold to, altel and suncom, then they will be able to use their carriers networks and whatever roam agreements their new carrier have.

See the agreeements allowed them to use the other carriers networks, but since that agreement was dissolved in october, then those customers in the divested markets as well as the other "former attws" customers will have it like it was before april 2004, they can only have access to the att network, if anyone remembers the blue side ...
