Look what the "successful" managers from AT&T are doing to SunCom

Cingular bought AT&T. SunCom and Cingular worked out a "swap" so that Cingular got VA and SunCom got the NC/SC AT&T markets.

SunCom thought it would be a good idea if they hired some of the AT&T management.

Now lets look at that logic.

You have a very successful company whose stock is flying high. You have just consolidated your market. You are poised to launch the most competitive plans available.

What is your next move???? You hire the people who screwed up AT&T.

Some of the "little gems" that they have come up with are straight from their days at AT&T.

1. Every retail location MUST have all employees come in every Thursday morning at 8AM for a store meeting.

I'm sorry, but looking at that it seems like these are good ideas, let me pick them apart and show what i mean:

1. Every retail location MUST have all employees come in every Thursday morning at 8AM for a store meeting.

1A)By doing that then they can talk to their people on the floor, discuss what customers are wanting, what they are asking for, which can be forwarded on the regional manager to see what could be implemented, and the manager can update in person any new offers, which does happen on a regular basis.


2. Every retail store will be open on Sunday.

2A)Cingular customer care unlike the former att is not open on sundays, and customers tend to buy things on the weekend as they ddon't normally work weekends, so this way...

Thanks for your view on the situation. Perhaps I should elaborate;

This is done now on an immediate basis...in person. As I said our managers are not holed up in an office. All new "deals" and information is immediately distributed to all sales associates via email.

Its not a dumb idea to wear shirt and tie, you are projecting an image in there when customers walk in, they are going to feel in a profesional enviorment as compared to other places that wear t-shirts and god knows what else.

Actually in a retail sales environment studies have shown that wearing a tie is the best option. Customers feel uncomfortable when they come in and the salesperson is wearing a tie. My company switched to khakis and polo shirts and we have had better success than when we wore shirts and ties.

That is EXACTLY what SunCom discovered. Then the "shirts" from AT&T came in and had these "new" ideas; you know the ones that made AT&T so successful?

We wore SunCom polo shirts with khakis. Customers feel more comfortable with us; we are physically more comfortable and the work environment is more relaxed and productive. But don't confuse the "shirts" with research and past history; they KNOW what works best.
