An open letter to the new Cingulatt - look to the future

US carriers wasted 18 months fighting essential technologies such as E911 and number portability, claiming they were "too difficult and costly" to implement. Yet somehow, every one of them in that same time frame managed to empower anyone to instantly send a picture of their dog soiling the neighbors garden to their distant relatives. Still today, they continue to struggle to successfully implement basic, fundamental technologies like E911 and portability, and fight with coverage and signal quality issues.

Meanwhile, their European counterparts are looking toward the future:

You need to do a little research on you technologies. Just because Verizon uses CDMA it will not be a smooth transition to WCDMA it is a totally different tech. It is a hybrid it is not like they will be able to flip a switch and all of the sudden it is there. Not to mention the fact that most people forget that Verizon is still a cluster of different companies. Plus the UMTS tech. that AT&T is about to roll out is much closer to the WCDMA platform anyway. Also with the money that the new AT&T+Cingular will have they will roll things out much faster now. If you ask me Verizon is luck that Cingular won the bidding if Vodaphone had it would have cost Verizon Billions of dollars to buy Voda's part of the company and if they were so happy togeth...

Again...not knocking any company in particular...but....

The funny thing is with the Voda-Verizon marriage, their technologies aren't even compatible. If a Voda customer wanted to come to the U.S., they couldn't roam on Verizon's network. At least with a Voda-AWS marriage, the networks would have been compatible and would have allowed Voda to come one step closer to being a true worldwide carrier.
