Hey...just wondering about the ATT/Rogers/Fido agreement, and some info in general. I've been looking at the nokia 6620 from rogers, but their data plans(and every other wireless carrier in Canada) are horrible...until i found Fido. They seem to have an unlimited plan for about 50 bucks. Anyone have any experience with fido? Are the data charges while roaming harsh? Also, why is Canada so far behind in wireless technology?

Canada isnt really far behind in wireless technology! We have gsm and CDMA service, not any digital, but its not as competetive up here because there aren't as many big carriers, so the rate plans etc aren't as good. I've never tried Fido, but I heard that it has a small coverage area (at least in Alberta) and only covers cities, but it also has really cool phones and good plans. I have Bell right now, and I hate my plan, but the service is really good. I can go ANYWHERE. Rogers is no longer affiliated with AT&T or Cingular in the US (says the guy at the store - so I donno), but they have the same phones and similar rate plans???

hmm...yeah that was my main concern. did some research, Rogers owns Fido, and therefore rogers is the roaming partner. i'm worried about roaming; unline the american carriers, we don't seem to have any national plans where you can go across canada and make local calls/use data without roaming charges. for a travelling student like me, that would be awesome. and with rogers owning fido, i don't think there are any on-network roaming (if in hca). i think i need to do more research here...

Canada is wierd. I don't think there are roaming charges.
But if you leave you HCA you are charged LD. Not to sure. I talked with a Bell rep when I got my phone and he wasn't making much sence 😕
And since I don't leave central alberta I don't really care =)
And I love my plan with Bell. 🤣

I have a plan with fido at the present time, and the service seems to be good. Because fido is owned by rogers, you can roam off of any of there towers, but there is a roaming rate for those calls. If you are in a different city, there is no roaming charge. (only when you are between cities)
The fido plans seem to be good to me, I have good coverage (in Edmonton), and the plans have fair rates. on a $25 cad for 100 anytime, unl NW from 7, and unl incoming calls. If you get the hiptop through them, they do have the hiptop unlimited data for 20 cad. Other then that it's still 50 cad.
If you are in another city that has fido service, people calling you counts as LD for them. Calling someone when you are in a city that is not your home calli...

Alright finally a topic I can really deal with.
Ok I have a plan with Rogers, wish we got a discount or something like that because of who we used to work for.
200 daytime minutes.
Unlimited Night and Weekend minutes after 8pm.
Free Caller ID until 2YR contract is up.
$5.00 for Voicemail.
Totaling $31.00 with everything I just mentioned.
With GSM up here you can go anywhere in Canada without roaming charges. LD is only charged if you make a call that is NOT local to the city you are in. You receive LD charges if a call outside the local calling area you are in is received on your phone.
My friend and I are going to start our own company and combine the benefits from American plans and Canadian plans. We are calling it Sucki...

Hey
If your working at the convergys edmonton location, I do know that we do receive a discounted plan for being an employee through rogers wireless. Would have gotten it myself, but We can't keep the same number here, unlike our neighbors to the south.

Hehe, possibly
all I know is that the water in regina tastes pretty bad. Probably because they built a dam on a creek for the resevoir.
Nice city though. My mother used to work at the museum. Havn't been there in years.
8 minutes left... god I'm bored. Please do not get a call.... please.....

Crap, got a call... but at least it was just a bill payment.
I'm out of here.

Actually, we've had GSM up here for over 3 years...how exactly does that make Canada "so far behind?"
