Ever wonder what exactly those charges under "Taxes, Fees and Surcharges" on your cell phone bill actually are? Because this charge can amount to 10% or more of your cell phone bill, it's important to try to understand exactly what your are getting charged for. Since cell phone taxes, fees and surcharges vary by cellular service provider and by state, it's hard to get an actual number on these charges. You can, however, use our tax rates and definitions below as your tax and surcharge guide to estimate your taxes and fees.

Forgot one, though I believe it is a state tax

Gross Reciepts Tax
State House Bills are often passed to add a Gross Receipts Tax to include a small (3-6)% surcharge added to all mobile telecommunications services sourced with an address from that state. This surcharge is the same surcharge customers may see listed on their local and long distance telephone bills. It can also add a X% Gross Receipts Tax on interstate telephone calls that either originate or terminate in the state, and which have a billing address in the state
