Does anyone else here remember the promise held out for the GAIT phone? I love that Nokia 6340. I still lurk on ebay santching up good ones when I can. I sell them to customers who are interested in a phone that actually has a good signal and receives calls...not fancy "stuff" that has little to do with making and receiving calls.

AWS never had the Nokia 6340. The premerger AWS had the Siemens S46 and the Sony Ericsson T62U. There's not that much of a reason for a GAIT fon anymore because the GSM is pretty mature at this point, so why go through the expense and complexities of having a phone that switches from GSM to TDMA?

Because I can switch it when I am out of the GSM market. Something that occurs quite often when I am not on an interstate or a major city/town. Mine set in a cradle which is hooked up to an amplifier and a 9 db gain external antennae...love the analog service in the middle of nowhere. Of course if you are an urban user, you would have no need of this.
