AT&T plan -> Cingular plan: Can I do this?

Hello experts, I have a question.

I'm currently on an AT&T "charter offer" plan, it was a promotion from when AT&T started up their GSM service. Here's how it works: For $59.99/mo, I get 750 anytime minutes, plus 750 more. So that's 1500 minutes/mo at $59.99. It's a good deal. I also have a data plan that allows me to use unlimited data on my SE T637 for $24.99/month, which I love, cuz mmode is my life.

But I just found out that to get a new phone, I have to switch to a Cingular plan, and none of the plans are even close to as good. AND the rep said that they don't have an unlimited data plan for under $80!

Is this all true? And if so, can someone tell me how this merger is good for the customer!? 😉

Thanks, and I love this...

yes unfortunately it is true! they do offer a plan for 59.99 but it's not 1500 mins! 😢 you can add the insurance to your acct if the phone still works but you will have to wait 2 weeks before you can use the feature to get a new one!-good luck-lots of people are having this kind of problem!-the AT&T reps sympatize! 🙂

Great. So then, I can pay money to get a new phone, then pay the same amount of money for less minutes, then pay the same money for not-unlimited data.

How's this merger good for me as a customer? And how does Cingular think they're going to retain those however-many million customers from AT&T?

And, sure, it may sound like it's just sour grapes, but I'm seriously upset with the level of service I've gotten. If *I* call Cingular, I get someone who knows about AT&T's plans and policies and they usually get me figured out, but if they call *me* for some reason, I get some prick who blames me for having at AT&T legacy account. I hate that!

Is it that sometimes I get former AT&T reps, and other times I get Cingular reps? Cuz that's nuts...

you're supposed to be sold on the roolover mins and the access to star services such as *min# to get a current record of avail mins this cycle or *bal# to get acct balance-not a huge seller? sorry the merger was supposed to be for your own good as the customer(did you buy that?) 🙂

Right. heh. *min#. With mmode, I could see how many minutes were left AND see how much data I'd used. And as far as balance goes, c'mon. All the providers offer that with their websites.

Any clue on what Cingular spent on this useless crap they got for free with AT&T?

Don't get me wrong: the combined network is GREAT. Call quality is great. And the retail stores are great. But I can't justify staying with Cingular when they 1) charge me way more money, 2) treat me like **** whilst doing so.

Anyone know about T-Mobile's data plans? 😉

From my understanding, Cingular has an open door policy, customers can come and go as they please. I am an old AWS rep, being paid the same amount to do more now and I think the plans only stink for situations like this.

I have had many customers that benefited from the Family Talk plans or the individual plans and those that benefited from their AWS plans.

I know it sucks that your plan cannot be matched, but not everyone can be covered.

the other thing you need to take into consideration is your actual usage-I just took a call from a legacy acct holer who uses less than 1200 mins per month and moving over to cingular would actually save him money because we can offer him more for less money

Yeah. I had a customer that was complaining that the Cingular plan wouldn't get him unlimited nights and weeks and instead "only" gives 5000. So I pointed out that he only used 500 nights and weekend 🤣

The merger is good if your a Cingular customer, they are kinda screwin ATT customers pretty good though. It was a buisness deal which benifited Cingular as a company.

Mattoly,
The Rep you were talkin to was retarded... If you want mModelike service on your 637, you can get it for 24.99 unlimited. It's called Media Net. The plan the rep was talkin about was for laptop connect! its 79.99 a month if you have a Data card in your laptop...
Thats one package cingular adopted from Att was the 24.99 unlimited plan for phones. It's basically the same as mMode...

I know that I'm a little late on reply but I haven't been on lately, but I hought you might still want another opinion The 1500 anytime mins plan sounds good, but as others suggested take a look at your actual daytime usage b/c as far as I recall there were no nights and weekends on that plan (and you didn't mention) and the Cingular $59.99 Nation comes with 900 anytime + unlimited nights and weekends and mobile to mobile (on a 2 year contract). Also as Me2 mentioned, the rep you spoke to was wrong we do have the Media Net $24.99 which is the same as Mmode. Hope this helps.
