Does AT&T Offer a Low Price "Emercengy" Plan?

Just wondering if ATTWS offers any low cost low minute emergency plans.

I signed up with ATTWS in December for a 1 year contract and just found out this week that I've been accepted into an exchange program that will have me living in Europe for the next 12 months.

A friend of mine who is also going in the program has SprintPCS and said he was allowed to drop his $30 contract down to $10 a month for about 20min for the remainder of his contract.

I was hoping ATTWS offers something similar so that I can just leave the phone here with my mother for emergency usage since it would be cheaper than paying the $175 cancellation fee.

Anyhow, sorry for the long post, anyone know if attws has this?

Thanks!

The lowest plan available is the $19.99 mLife Local or the mLIfe national network plan.

The local plan includes 45 anytime min, but no n/w min or free ld.

The national network plan includes 30 anytime min, with free ld and free roaming anywhere in the AWS service area (see online map for coverage).

There are lower plans for business accounts ($16.99/month I believe).

If you go the prepaid route and use pharos (I think it's pharos) you can get it down to $6.66/month. The nice thing is they are a virtual operator using ATTWS TDMA network. So you're basically getting ATTWS TDMA for $6.66/month by getting the lowest prepaid from pharos... as far as minutes, no idea.

You can't switch to a prepaid plan without cancelling the contract thus incurring an etf. I think the point is to avoid the etf.

Another option, besides lowering the plan is to hand the phone over to someone else to use. You can do it officially by doing a Change of Responsibility and putting it in the new user's name, or if you trust the person you're giving it to, you can keep it in your name, and build credit while your gone, and they pay the bills ;)

I find that when there's someone who is willing to take over the phone, that's the best option, because you get out of the etf and don't have to pay anything else, and someone else can get a new phone service without having to pay the $36 start of service fee.
