Can you completly format a smartphone? -in this case the mpx200- therefore getting rid of the network lock, or can you edit a file on the phone to get around the lock? If ppl were able to get around the Windows XP activation thing, im sure its not harder to get around the network lock. does anyone know?

It's called flashing the phone. You need cables and software. Be warned though, that when you flash the phone to the manufacturer default (the version that is unlocked) you might lose some AWS customized features, such as you're mMode settings, menu options, network databases... who knows what it might turn out to be. Oh, and if you do that, AWS technical support won't help you if you need it.

That's an issue which is not authorized neither by Moto nor by ATT. Moto will not recognize issue with it under the warranty if something goes wrong. Try not to do that.

i know a flash will do that, and i don't care if i void the warranty, nor if i lose the mMode **** on it. what i meant was is there a way to format the phone in such a way that it will delete the network lock off the phone also? i've flashed my phone, however the network lock remains. of if you can't format it, can you edit some file to get around the unlock code? i know that in europe for the orange phones, the SPV, there was a *.cab file made to install on your phone that would unlock it and let you install uncerted programs, unfortunately it doesn't get rid of the subsidy lock.

Unfortunately I haven't heard of any ways through installing/deleting/altering/whatever files.

The problem with flashing a phone is that you have to know what software you are flashing to it. If you flash a phone with software that has a subsidy lock on it, then that defeats you're goal. Finding software to flash the phone to a version where the phone did not contain a subsidy lock is the key. No clue where to find this software whether it is free or for a fee... sorry about that.
