Well, now with Best Buy including a $150 upcharge for existing customers to purchase phones, are there any national retailers still selling AWS phones to existing customers without insane charges? Shall we make a list?

Circuit City:
* T-Mobile ($150 upcharge)
* VZW ($150 upcharge)

Best Buy:
* AWS ($150 upcharge)
* Cingular ($150 upcharge)
* Sprint PCS (no upcharge)

CompUSA:
* AWS ($150 upcharge)
* T-Mobile ($150 upcharge)
* Sprint PCS (no charge)
* NexTel (dunno)

Sams Club:
* No phones sold w/out contract period.

Costco:
* Sprint PCS (no charge)

Basically, is there any way to get a reasonably priced unit (no contract extension, no upcharge, NOT expecting a free/dirt cheap phone)? Just a resonably priced unit, s...

Don't matter, i have access to all remote unlocking software (no cables)... but dang, retail is 219.99 !?

Lucky I got mine from BB before they did that upcharge for $150 ... upcharging sucks!

BTW, is that the ACTUAL price AWS buys the phones from Nokia, or is that the price they set to make SOME profit even on a no-contract upgrade?

The non-discounted pricing is AWS cost for the phone. The $15.00 upgrade fee on the other hand is an attempt to recover some of the revenue lost due to selling equipment. I still think carriers need to stop playing the phone locking game and subsidizing phones, let customers purchase their own equipment from the manufacturer directly.

I agree 100%. IF customers were buying phones from the manufacturer perhaps everyone would understand how much the phones actually cost. Then the wireless companies could spend more time looking at affordable rate plans etc...

pretty much the only way to find that out is to call and ask them.

Yah, but the thing is carriers get a discount since they buy in bulk... it'd probably cost us an arm and a leg to buy one direct from them.

Probably retail price, to be honest with you I have no idea. But I expect you would pay more than you would through a wireless carrier with contract.

Non discounted pricing is still generally cheaper then what you can buy from the manufacturer. Take the Nokia 6820 for example.

Aws non contract price $349.99
1 year contract $319.99 2 year contract $279.99.

Online directly through Nokia $399.99

That's not a simple phone, it was just an example. The 6820 is the "latest and greatest" Nokia phone. I'm sure there are cheaper ones out there.
