IS THIS NEW COVERAGE CINGULAR'S?

Can anyone tell me if AT&T magically built these 850 MHz towers overnight to increase coverage for their new GSM flagship plans or are they using Cingular's towers? Is this first step of this merger?

It's part of both, AT&T has been building tons of 850 MHz sites over the last 6 month's and we have opened up tons of new roaming agreements with Cingular. They are still roaming agreements and we do pay for them. Odds are that they are more favorable due to the merger talks but even without the merger thay most likely would have been introduced.

Exactly. Is "Merger" the politically correct way of saying "buyout". I guess it just sounds better but when you pay 46 billion (or whatever the final sum came out to) to say merger instead?

It is the exact same deal that would have happened without the merger/buyout. Now that the deal is in process, we have to be extra careful to avoid the appearance of collusion.

Other than prep-work, the next stage of the process is for anyone who wants to complain about the deal to contact the FCC. That stage is over May 3rd.
