Warranty Exchange

Am I the only one who's fed up with being told by the customer that we owe them a new phone whenever thir's breaks. It's just stupid, we are the wireless service provider, if your TV breaks you dont call your cable company to get them to give you a replacement, you either call Sony or whoever makes your TV if you have a warranty or you get off your ass and drive to Cheap-O-Joe's TV repair shop and pay to have it fixed. It's the same for your cell phone. Call Nokia, call Motorola, they make the stupid thing, all AT&T did was sell it to you, and by the way, read your T&C's of service.

It's all a result of wireless companies giving away free phones as part of competition. Customer's are spoiled and therefore EXPECT a free phone or free replacement...and it's the wireless carriers fault.

Granted there should be some common sense on the consumer's part...but still, once spoiled, always spoiled.

In Europe, or so I'm told, it's the consumer's responsibility to find a phone on their own. There are no subsidies for phones (free phones) It's pretty amazing how backwards the U.S. is when it comes to wireless service.

IMO of course =)

I don't know, I guess it just irks me being from Canada I expect to pay for a phone if I want another one. Maybe not full price but still I have no expectation for a free phone, even with new service. And don't let me get to all the freebies on the American plans, you want voicemail, that's 5 bucks, you want caller ID 4 bucks. You want to know what I get for 28.40 per month, 150 anytime and unlim N&W 7-7. And that's a cheap plan. If anyone out there thinks they have it rough move to Canada and pay for a cell phone.

Couldnt have said it better myself,
You would think that people would already know that you cant get anything for free anymore...
even a free fon through an upgrade means a contract renewal.

The least that could be offered is a warranty. You make good points:
1) the fact that is the manufacturer's fault for designing a cheap phone
2)any kind of company that provides any kind of service will not replace the equipment for free
Most companies, however, do provide a warranty for their equipment. The standard is usually a 1 year warranty. I work for Cingular in West Texas and it is becoming very clear why ATT is in the position it is now. And if it's stated in the Terms of the contract that ATT will not give their customers a warranty for their phone then you must have the dumbest customers on the planet.

Dumb is an understatement, just had to get that off my chest. but anyways, the point that I'm really trying to make is why should the carrier have any responsibility for the phone. It's like buying a Chev and then going to Mr. Lube to try and get a repair for free because your bumper fell off. It's not going to happen.

They should have responsibilty because they are investing the money on these phones to provide their customers with the best possible service. They provide the phones and the service. If you purchase a phone on-line from the manufacturer, then yes, I agree with your Mr. Lube analogy. But even if you buy a TV from Best Buy and it screws up within a year when it isn't supposed to, then you take it back to find out what can be done. In most cases they send it back or replace it. Isn't that what you would expect as a consumer? Of course, like Best Buy and most other retailers, their is an extended warranty or insurance policy you purchase to protect YOUR investment.
