ATT GSM Phone HELP

I am interested in purchasing an att wireless phone around mid june, i really want a flip pone with external caller id for gsm service....do you have any recommendations, are there any good phones that will be out by then, that fit my criteria. I dislike the Motorola T720 and the Samsung X426 doesnt have external caller id. The motorola v600 is too expensive and the smartphone and NEC are too high tech....any recommendations??? What is the best flip phone?? I heard of a phone called the samsung e316, is that supposed to be good, when will that be released??

Well, you've pretty much eliminated every flip phone, never mind just ones with external caller ID, the only one you didnt list was the LG G4011, a piece of crap if there ever was one, plus no ext display. As for the Samsung, who knows? Last I heard was 4th quarter and that was about a month ago.

The only truly "decent" flip phone we have is the v600, if you are looking for external caller ID. So my advice to you would be...if you want to be happy w/ the phone you get...wait a little longer and save up the extra bucks for the v600.

Im on a Month to month (TDMA)with ATT and thats one of the many reasons Im currently researching other carriers.

No V400 Motorola....All the flips are too low end or high end. the only middle phone is the NEC which is not a widely used or supported phone.

Looking at CDMA Carriers as well.........The easy decision was to leave ATT after years. the tough one is to find another Carrier to live with for at least a year.!!!!!!!

Why are you deciding to leave AT&T if you don't mind my asking?

I actually tried to renew but becasue I was on TDMA and switching to GSM I would loose the extra 200 anytime minutes I recieved for renewing last time......At $39.99 I would get only 450 minutes and the V600 was going to cost $299. I do not need or want Blue Tooth and after looking around I saw that Cingular had the V400 for $150 and 450 W roll over as well as some other benifits not the least being having the same coverage as ATT now.

Being in Atlantic City instead of my home Las VEgas I cannot switch here. I could have renewed ATT here though. But there is no incentive from them for me to renew and now with LNP it makes no sense to stay with them.

But since I have a month left here I am looking at all the Carriers and CDMA as well...

What exactly is your objection to the NEC 525? I just got one myself for my dealer demo line and it is a beautiful phone. It's pretty big, but it has a huge gorgeous color screen. It actually seems pretty simple to operate as well.

My problem with that phone (when I used one a couple of months ago) was poor earpiece volume.

Well, I only tried one 525, but I'd heard of problems with that particular model's volume.

J Digital,

I work for Cingular in the Dallas market. I was wondering what kind of deal ATT reps recieve on their demo line. I get 1000 anytime (no rollover), 1000 night and weekend, unlimited text messaging, and internet, and no roaming or long distance nation wide for $20 a month plus tax. Is this similar?

When i worked for ATT they gave me 1200 Anytime, 500 Nights, 10 MB data on a local plan (no free out of state roaming, no free out of state long distance - except for ac 419 ohio) for $15/month...

I don't actually work for AT&T... I'm an indirect dealer. I get 1000 minutes for $10 a month, with free unlimited text messaging and 10 Mb of data (mMode). I pay an extra $5 for nationwide long distance, and I could pay an extra $5 for 500 N&W minutes, but I don't since I have three phones already. It's interesting to compare the dealer lines from different carriers. From T-Mobile I pay $25 a month for 1500 minutes, and that includes absolutely anthing, including long distance, text, web, etc. Verizon, which is usually stingy it seems, actually gives me 750 minutes a month totally free, with free text and web, and I think their National Access data plan.

Are you sure it's not just weak GSM coverage in your area?

I get near full to full signal with my 6310i, 3590, 3595, 6200, 8310, unlocked v205, unlocked s105, t610 at the same location that her phone gets barely any. This also goes the same for my other friend from school who has an NEC 525.

Now my first friend lives in FL and she's lucky to even get 1 bar where her friends get great signal. Unfortunately she isn't far enough into her contract to get a new phone and she doesn't like any of the phones I have except the unlocked samsung ones i had but sold to some people.

Well, I've just gotten mine and the dealer account should become active any day, so I guess I'll just have to see for myself. I also wonder what frequency AT&T is using in your area... I don't know if that would make any difference. Maybe the NEC has marginal signal strength, and if you were in a 1900 MHz area only it wouldn't penetrate buildings as well. But wait... you were using the unlocked Samsungs, which could only use 1900 anyway. Oh well, I hope that I'm pleased with mine here. I like the phone, it would be a shame if it weren't usable.

How is it for accessorie availibility? I do agree with you that it's a great phone I have heard no complaints about it and it looks pretty cool, the only down side would be its price tag for the average joe/jane it is a bit much but if you can afford it hey 🙂

The NEC is an "also ran" ATT should have had the V400 instead. Look at the NEC forum here. About 6 posts!

Not much experience out there and the reviews a Cnet are terible as compared to the Motorola line up.

The only complaint i have about Motorola is the failure to be able to add more than one phone number to the same name. A strange omission indeed.
