anyone know for sure how long ATT will still be around? When will I start having to abide by cingulars rules, or when does my bill start showing up in a cingular envelope?

At least the end of the year, right now there has been absolutely no official regulatory approval for the merger so legally they have to operate as 2 seperate companies. If and when it does go through you will have plenty of warning, you will get at least one letter a minimum of 1 month in advance to advise you of the new options/ opportunities available to you when Cingular takes over. This letter should give you a definite date for transfers of service. Until then, if you hear nothing its because there's nothing to hear and it's business as usual.

Marcus,

Are you telling me that if I am currently an AT&T Wireless customer, I will be able to keep the rate and plan that I currently have? If so, that would be wonderful. Surely though, Cingular cannot keep customers with more expensive plans for the same amount of minutes as less expensive plans from AT&T. I believe that Cingular either will be forced to "tailor" their plans to fit AT&Ts lower prices, or release AT&T customers out of their contracts without penalty.

Thanks!

I dont understand why Cingular would have to tailor their plans to match AT&T's lower prices, from what Marcus states Cingular plans to simply integrate all of AT&T's currently offered plans as part of their plan portfolios. This would leave all customers with the choice as to which plans they want and the plans would sort of compete with each other but all benefit one company. If for instance the customer wanted rollover minutes they might have to decide if it was worth paying the same price as a plan without rollover but with less minutes. There's no need to overcomplicate things by creating new plan families or trying to modify existing ones. If a customer thinks one of the other plans is a better deal then they will simply switch to ...
