AT&T + Amazon E16 Deal

Hi,

I live in Canada and am moving to New York for university. I want to get the E316 and Amazon is selling it (with an AT&T plan) for free (with rebates). The only problem is that in Ithaca, AT&T coverage isn't too good, and I'd rather be on Cingular. If within 30 days of activating the phone, can I cancel without having to pay a ETF?

If so, does that mean I can purchase the phone, get the rebate (making the price = $0), and switch my number over to Cingular within 30 days and not have to pay AT&T anything?

Thanks for your help.

NOPE> ITS THAT SIMPLE YOU ONLY GET THAT DEAL GOING TO AT&T and staying with the contract see its all rebates.you gotta pay for it upfront and then get rebatesto reimburse you back. The eligibility is that the phone and service must be actiivaed for a minimum of 30 days. After that point you'd be qualified for the rebate but if cncld ,including porting to another carrier you'd pay 175 in ETF,plus you might still lose out on the rebates, depsnding on how quickly they process the rebate it normally takes 7-10 weeks to complete then mail out the refund to prevent things like what you of doing from happening.

thats what I figured, but it would still be cheaper to get the rebates then cancel the plan and pay the $175 then having to pay $315 for the phone in the first place

You do still for the phone, thats the whole point. You pay for the phone upfront. Then you wait for rebates to come to you.So let's see you a 50.00 mail in rebate, you get another 200.00 rebate which you you wait 8-10 weeks for plus a upgrade process fee.

That fee currently being charged by amazon for twenty five dollars, which is non refundable. Then after being into the contract past 30 days when you cancel you pay the 175 ETF, plus the monthly fees for the plan.Going through all of that, does it sound like its worth it to you?

well actually if you add it up, it is less, haha 😛

but it would be a lot of work, so does anyone know when cingular is going to release the phone?

I tried phoning Customer Service from here but the system wouldn't connect me as I was out of their service area, and for some odd reason you cant contact Cingular through email

could someone phone the 1 800 number for me and ask when the E316 will be released, I would really appreciate. Thanks

They are aren't yet they are waiting to see how well it does with AT&T first then decide whether they will or not.

Not quite, DEBIT. ATTWS has first release on it. Cingular cannot roll it out until the first release period is over.

oh, okay, so if I wanted to wait for cingular, I have another option... I have a CDMA phone which would work on Verizon

so Im wondering if I can buy a monthly or pay as you go contract from Verizon and use my old phone for a couple of months until Cingular gets the E316? then I could switch my number over to Cingular

would that work?

thanks

Looks like some markets have it already... its listed on my handset margin list here in the Boston market. Check with a company-owned retail location, they may be able to order it if they don't stock it. With us, it would be the E317

the other thing was is it possible to set up an Ithaca number in another city (say Rochester or Syracuse)?

i know that you addressed this question to phonepimp, but i figured i would look at it for you. the price of the Samsung E316 is 319.99 ( retail) $289.99 ( one year contract ) $249.99 (2yr contract).... that price may vary, if you already have an account with AT&T wireless, you should call into customer care so that you could get an actual price... that is an estimate of the phone. I work in customer care and that is prices i found for you. there is also a $50 mail in rebate ( on qualifiled calling plans) hopefully that would help you 😁

each manufacturer has a certain amount of phones that they make for each wireless carrier. So most phones will have a certain company logo on it. If we get customers who call us to activate a phone that isn't ours, it makes it difficult to troubleshoot any issues with the phone. I'm sure once the merger is complete, our customers will be able to use Cingular phones, but right now we don't support phones from other carries even if it's Cingular

Once the buyout is complete, Cingular's network and tech support will support ATTWS phones.
