GSM in Vermont/New Hampshire/Maine?

Wondering what luck other people have had with GSM in VT/NH/ME? I migrated to GSM on AT&T on Tuesday and the service is about the same as TDMA here in Metro Boston. However, I was up in VT for a Bachelor party this weekend and I lost signal shortly after getting on I-89 North (just above Concord/Bow, NH). I didn't see any signal again until getting to Rutland, VT a solid 60+ minutes further north!! Once outside of the Rutland area, I once again had ZERO service. I figured it wasn't going to be quite as good as CDMA/Analog up there, but not THAT bad, especially since they said they've expanded GSM coverage up in New England.

Sorry to say - but GSM stinks. Shoulda stayed with CDMA. Although I will say - my son goes to Vermont almost every weekend and the only place he can get a signal there is in Rutland...so I guess they all have their problems.

NB...what exactly do you base your information on? Other than the fact you prefer CDMA?

Fact is this: Every carrier has its trouble spots. First thing I would recommend is rule out database issues. When a phone is activated it receives a roaming database. If this is not completely transferred to the phone it will have access issues.

If this is not successful, rule out the phone. You can also ask your ATTWS rep to pull up those areas on their map tool and see if they have coverage there.

I believe ATTWS and Cingular have roaming agreements in the Northeast, and Cingular has pretty good coverage there, which is why I suspect the roaming database.
