thenation

Dec 20, 2003, 5:23 AM
did everyone see the story that 20/20 did on lnp? what do you all THINK about that? does anyone have any OPINION based on what they saw on the show about the story?
i think it was pretty one-sided but its a shame the wireless companies declined interview. i definatly agree with the customer on lnp its been hard on them.

and who made the customer do the lnp on Nov 24th, anybody that knows anything about computer systems or anything technical should have predicted a few weeks of problems, even the media and FCC said you may not want want to do it right away, but oh no they did and now it is the end of the world because they had to go a week without phone service. GIVE ME A BREAK!! these idiots decided to do it now they will need to live with it. No-one else's fault but there own!

Thats proprietary information moron, want to lose your job?

How is that proprietary information moron? The issues with Siebel are even in the Wall street Journal. A customer told me about it today in fact. As per when he logged in what is proprietary information about that who cares. You either take things too serious or you are just at rat and in that case you need to mind your business and keep your mouth shut.

Dude, you're naming our systems to customers that is ILLEGAL. Go read the flippin' contract you signed at the beginning when you started working at AT&T Wireless. Twit. Proprietary information.

If your system is metioned in public news how can it be proprietary info. These systems are internal systems. We are told at VZW not to name the system only because it is confusing to the customer and you shouldn't use company jargon to the customer. What does the customer care what the system is?

Shut the hell up idiot... Your freakin company is losing it's ass because of the poor customer service and the lousy processes it's employed. It has nothing to do with an honest employee frustrated with his company refusing to make the changes necessary to remain competitive. The numbers don't lie... ATTWS is sinking...

If you're mad, do something about it. (sheep)

Dec 24, 2003, 8:56 AM
You must be kidding, just because VZW does not make profits public does not mean we do not make them. Do you realize that is one of the main reasons we do not have an IPO? our profits are in the BILLIONs each quarter.
...

Dec 24, 2003, 11:26 AM
OMG, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If a company is turning profits in the BILLIONS as you say, they WOULD release their profit information to all the sources they could. This would make them look VERY good which will cause more people to buy their stock...

But we do not have stock as we are not a publicly traded company. Therefore we are not required to make our earnings public. You go and try and find VZW stock. It is not there. 3Quarter our Service Revenue was over 5 billion. This does not even include revenue from handsets. I can not provide exact figures as I believe I would get in trouble for that but believe me our competitive rating is number 1. Here is some stats on Net customer adds.

VZW 1407
Cingular 745
TMobile 670
Nextel 646
Sprint 474
AT&T 229

i once heard that we actually lost 800 million or so but who knows. i heard we lost but we make up in assets and other things. thats probably wrong though. you know how you hear things at work.

Is there a difference between revenue and profit?
...
mycool

Dec 24, 2003, 2:45 PM
Revenue is how much a company makes prior to costs... profit is the net result. For example, you sell a widget for $10. Your revenue is $10. It cost you $8 to make, your profit is $2.

VZW doesn't have publicy traded stocks because it is still owned by Verizon duh! It hasn't been spun off. So to own stock in Verizon Wireless you purchase stock in Verizon Communications... The symbol for Verizon Communications is VZ... look it up, it exists!

Why not try to lookup Cingular under the stock market... DOESN'T EXIST! Cingular is still owned by SBC Ameritech... so to purchase Cingular Wireless tock you merely have to purchase SBC AMERITECH STOCK.

Knowing how little you truley know in figures, it's really hard to believe any statistics you throw out anymore.

No the reason we are not publicly trade is we do not need to. Yes part of our earnings count towards VZ and part counts toward Vodafone. We had our application in to go IPO but there is no need to when we make as much money as we do. Check it out we rank number one in Total customers, Net customer adds, Service Revenue, Operating Income, Operating Cash Flow, Cash expense per Subscriber, and Network Coverage.

I am sure there is a ranking out there where you can see how the companies rank. The only ony we rank last in is Average Revenue Per User. And this is because we have some customers who have been with us for 20 years and refuse to move off a 9.99 plan.

Dec 24, 2003, 3:57 PM
Oh please do show me your sources for all these 'rankings'... sure you can find some magazines or similar things which rank Verizon "#1" but not in all those. Net customer add ons in which quarter? VZW wasn't number one in every quarter this year. VZW is not the pinacle of wireless service, nor is any other company.... VZW is part of Verizon... if VZ doesn't turn profit, neither does VZW duh.

The rankings are based on numbers not opions. The Net customer adds are for the 3rd quarter. Check my previously post and you will see the numbers for all the carriers for the 3rd quarter add ons. VZW has 36 million customers as of the 3rd quarter you show me a company who has more and provide me with numbers. Our Operating income (Operating Income- The total revenue the company brings in minus expenses.) was over 1 Billion in the 3rd Quarter alone. Again show me a company who has higher operating income.

I am not saying VZW is the pinacle of wireless service, what I am trying to point out is that att was not the only company to turn profit. And yes VZ own 51% of VZW, but we are a sperate compay governed by the SEC, Just because we ...

Really now, you need to pull yourself out of the hole your digging into. You throw out numbers like 1 billion from nowhere. Point me to the source that shows it.

It doesn't matter what you are governed by. Verizon Wireless is NOT a seperate company. They are still a part of Verizon Communications.

🤣 You have the makings of a great troll in you skip. Keep your head high, don't let those with actual facts or people concerned with a fellow employees job interfere with your mission to make this forum a little less pleasant for the rest of us. Truly, yours is a work of art which I salute! Now with the mocking over, maybe you can explain in your in"finite" wisdom why I see plenty or ports go through ok, but those where the customer doesn't actually check with us what there account info is or when another carrier *Cough*Nextel*cough* steals our numbers and then refuses to give them back? I await your... nuggets... of wisdom O Great One.

From what I have seen I believe there are retailers out there taking customer info and using it for a Port in Activation so they will be able to make a commission on a sale that never was to happen. I believe all companies are having this issue.

Seriously, when I am God Emperor of the world(or at least obscenely rich) I will start up my own company, and my line with my customer service representative is, Brutal Honesty is the best bet. I'm so sick of people saying I never called these numbers and your billing system is inaccurate and what not. Listen, on the past 5 invoices this number has been called up and down, and if you want you can come on down and inspect the nuts and bolts of our systems to insure quality. Oh, you can't read assembler language? Boo hoo! So many times I want to say the to the people I get. And just because I forgot too say this in my last reply. jobem, you fail it! KTHNXPLZDRVTHRU!
