im trying to get into pos from a comp other than work if possible.
...
cing IP locked all of ours. so unless you have access to your stores comp via something like gotomypc.com you cant access anything.
...
Even if you can, that's illegal bro. There's a reason it's that secure.
...
why would it be illegal? its your comp and your just giving yourself remote access to it from say home or your laptop when your traveling..
...
Why would you need access to personal records when you are not at work?
...
who knows....you dont know what you might need until your their.....or if you own a company in another city you can make updates to your terminals remotely....
...
Thanks for looking out for the company Hombre. Way to keep on top of the 4 R's.
...
oh it's to help my friends (who i sold phones too) and families who have questions about the accounts i can help look over (or fix), and pay my bill without having to deal with customer service.
Of course i wouldn't do activations (what's the point? i won't get paid for it) and i wouldn't mess with features or FANs.

It's NOT your computer - it belongs to Cingular. Have you ever read the disclaimer that pops up when you first sign in? The one that states that you are using a company asset and that the computer should not be considered personal property nor used accordingly? Even the managers, execs & whoever get legal stuff like that times 10 when they get issued a corporate laptop or COR Blackberry - it's very much against policy to access Cingular information outside of work. And it's VERY illegal to access customer information especially.
The how & why of such a process is irrelevant, it shouldn't be done.
...
i think your misunderstanding what i'm saying.....i was giving them a possible way to do what they were asking..
all i am saying is the reason people need the service is to provide updates to their own Point of sale systems and to provision their businesses computers....
...
The reason it's on a website is so you can access it from any location. Before they restricted the IPs I would access a customers account from home all the time. I never did it for personal reasons, but it was great when friends, family, or customers could contact me any time of day (of the websites operation) and I could update their account with the changes. This was it's intended purpose, which is why we each had individual log-ins.
They restricted the IPs because of abuse, but logging in from outside locations to serve the websites intended purpose was not abuse.
...
Right, plus another reason is because i would like to do business with my laptop. I can go representing myself for my store to business (let's use pizza delivery for example) and i can talk with the owner and perform a credit check right there.
...
Yep, or walk into a business and talk to the employees one on one about their features.
...
Privacy reasons, why would you need to access someone elses information away from the actual place of business? Additional to that, without them giving you permission to.
As someone else has said, Cingular has IP locked POS for a reason. It's their property, not yours.
...
Why? as i said, i would use it for my laptop when i want to go over coverage, credit check, and approval.
First, even if i wanted to check someones elses information, even if it's away or from my store comp, i can't access without the number and the last 4 of social. I can't get that without the customer telling me.
Second, it's not a locked IP, thats how alot of traveling agents get their sale. it requires AGENT CODE. thats my code with my name on it, they will know who did what.
Third, i can use it to look up my personal account, check my account notes to make sure reps did them rigth so i won't be screwed, and pay my bill without dealing with customer service.
...
Coverage can be checked through the CSP, a website not locked.
Traveling agents have their IP on the allow list because that is their purpose. Their laptops are provided by Cingular. It's all a guessing game, you have someones phone number and their zip code your in. It's not all that hard.
If they wanted that stuff to be viewed by you you would be able to see it in MyCingular. You can pay your bill online anyway.
Basicly, if Cingular wanted you to access it from home you would be able to. But obviously you can't. If you are really an agent, go to your store, write down the address for POS, and shut the **** up. Then you can see that you can't get in anyway. It makes me wonder if you are an agent for lack of some pretty damn obvio...

I didn't have the address at the time i posted this, i don't have a cingular account, a phone provided by my agent so i can't pay my bill online, my agent do not provide laptops, csp locks most of the feautes i need, ecvsp and mti map tool. I NEVER assume or guess when it comes to sale. This is mostly to making business with outside stores, and helping my friends out with their bills.
BTW, i did use the address and it DID WORK. Makes me wonder if your a person who makes these aligations without backing up your word, sounds like lack of pretty dam obvious knowledge. ๐คจ
Go pick a fight outside, not on your screen

It's IP locked now because people were abusing the system. About six months ago it wasn't IP locked. Each user had their own individual POS login and password, so it could be checked what each individual person was doing. Now they've gone to store logins, which I'm sure is a bit easier to keep track of.
As it stands now, it's obvious they don't want you doing it. As it used to be, they had no problem allowing you to access it from any computer anywhere in the world. I specifically asked my RAE a year ago if it was allowed, and he said certainly. That's why we each had our own logins.
