Because unlocking (removing the carrier subsidy lock) certainly doesn't. Unlocking shouldn't affect anything on the software for the phone, though there are numerous exceptions for certain phone models.

Of course, if you're referring to something other than subsidy unlock, I have no idea.

I'm curious what the benefit is to doing that - it's not like the phone wouldn't still externally be branded Cingular, so what's the advantage to removing Cingular firmware & programming?

There are a number of things u can do if u flash over to original SE. I am mostly interested in:

- Disabling camera sounds.
- OTA updates.
- MP3 as ringtone limitation.
- Themes limitation.

cheers!

Disabling camera sounds and the MP3 as ringtone limitation will be fixed if you successfully flash your W810 to a stock SE flash file.

OTA updates are sent out by CINGULAR and even if you debrand it you will not be able to get them any more then you would with a branded Cingular model.

As far as I know, you can download themes from a WAP and install them on the phone, I have done it before on a W810, so I don't know what you're talking about there.

AS FAR AS ERASING YOUR CONTACT...

I guess im confused about what you mean by debranding. do you mean unlocking the phone. if so if it is gsm you can save all to sim then unlock then save back to phone. but i unlocked my tmobile phone and it didnt erase anything.

No I mean debranding, as in reflashing the phone to remove cingular branding and getting it back to as the manufacturer intended. In my case SE for a w810i.
