Is there a way to tell if a phone is reburbished?

Someone is selling a phone that I want to get. However, I don't think the phone is a new phone. I think that this guy had the phone for a while and then did an insurance claim and now he is selling this phone. Is there a way I can check the phone's origin? Perhaps the IMEI?

New phones come in the manufacturer's box and are sealed. Refurbs generally come in a plain brown wrapper.... 😲

yes, there is a round sticker next to the IMEI sticker that has 6 letters or numbers or combination of the two on it. If there is a one of those then you have a refurb.
