Takeover of AT&T on October 1st?

Does anyone know if the Oct. 1st date is right for the takeover of AT&T Wireless? If it is, Cingular would have 6 months from that date to have everyone changed over to Cingular completely. Also, would all of Cingular's phone offerings be availble to AT&T customers effective on 10-1-04?

There is not an official date set in stone just yet, however they have said it will be 'sometime' in october, and being i do work for Cingular i can say that Cingular's phone line will most likely not be available for AT&T customers initially. It will however be within that 6 month takeover period. From what i see it may be very soon it may happen however because Cingular is not holding back on anything, they want it to happen fast like everyone else.

The most recent date I had heard was Ocotber 15th. http://www.fcc.gov/transaction/cingular-att_w ireless.html According to the FCC website normal transactions take around 180 days with the more complicated ones taking slightly longer. I don't think it is possible to have everything completed by 10/1 but we will see. What are you feelings?

I called Cingular customer care twice, and both times I was told Oct. 1st the takeover would begin. Maybe some people should ask around more, but being the first of the month and first day in the 4th quarter, I think it's a strong possibility.

That is not when the merger is going to be complete that is when the FCC expects to have decided IF they are going to "consent to transfer control of various Commission licenses and authorizations held by AT&T Wireless and its wholly- or majority-owned subsidiaries to Cingular (“Application”). " In other words they expect to DECIDE if they are going to allow it in the 180 days not that it is going to be complete.

I did not ask Cingular when I called about any of the technical conditions between AT&T and Cingular...but when me, as an AT&T customer would be able to look to Cingular for new products and services. There is a news article anyone can read about this:

http://yahoo.reuters.com/financeQuoteCompanyNewsArti ... »

This Reuters news article was dated Sept. 15th and states that they expect to have a decision within 2 weeks from then. I don't know what to believe either, but anytime from Oct. 1st or anytime in October appears likely.

We are still waiting on word from the FCC... the FCC can give word on Oct. 1st... expected Oct. 31st... but can always obviously be pushed back... If the decisions is made Oct. 31st and it's approved... Cingular & ATTWS will begin Migration as soon as Nov. 1st... The Next Day!... But we'll see what the .gov has to say about it...
