NEED HELP with mac internet

chainsaw

I have a customer who has a mac that doesn't have a pcmcia or express card slot but he wants wireless internet. I told him that we could use a bluetooth phone and sync it up just fine, but the problem is I don't know where to download software to support the phone. Does anyone have experience creating a viable internet solution with cingular through a mac. I know the other option is to use a pcmcia to usb adapter but I can't find a cheap source for the software to support it.

You probably don't need any software. Open up the System Preference and then select the Internet option. You should be able to select what type of device you want to connect to the internet through including finding a new device.

i believe moto phone tools comes in a mac version as well too, you can use a v3xx as a modem through their software....depeneding on what you tell your customer they could get on the Unlimited 79.99, 59.99 if they have a line already w/cingy or, or the 19.99 media max.......if they alrady have a phone with cingy they can also change it to the v3xx and take phone calls while tethering at the same time..

i beg to differ my good man, try it out.....you will not be billed if you use moto phone tools as your medium, i asked 2 years ago and was told by cust service 3 str8 time that all i needed at the time was the unl media net...its all data, cingy would love for you to pay 59.99 though

Things have changed in two years.

Per the terms and conditions of Medianet service it CANNOT be used for tethering to a laptop.

Roll the dice if you choose.

Actually we use two differnt methods to connect to the internet. What MEdia net uses is a WAP server. What our PDAs and Data Cards connect through is our ISP server. Everybody and their momma is on WAP when they're using their phones. ISP is dedicated to high data users. They do notice which one you're using, and you get a more reliable connection via the ISP servers since you're not having to share with all the WAP users.

I was told 2 weeks ago that you cannot use MEdia Net to tether. I get told this every 2 weeks on our bi-weekly data call. My 2 weeks ago trumps your 2 years ago.

oh well, i'm just telling you what has worked for me the last two years, and what i was told when i started using it, so if for some reason i get an outrageous bill i have good reason to have it fixed, in two years tethering my phone i have not been charged anything more than the 19.99 unl data. All i'm saying is at the moment you as a end-user can make the call for yourself on what you want to do.

At the moment, the end-user cannot. The policies are in place by Cingular, and if you break them you're liable for the overages. If you signed up on some plan four years ago, you might be able to get out of it. If you wanted a feature added now you wouldn't.

If you want me to I can send your number to our data tech department so they can fix it for you.
