can anyone that knows tell me,is the cingular purchasing of at&t a merger or a buyout.by that i mean a merger being a blending of the two companies phones, rate plans,equipment,i.g. at&t offers thier customer the ability to get a free phone or discount on a newer phone twice in a 12mo period as long as they resign a 2yr contract when they get the phone, just like a new customer.cingular makes thier existing customers wait until the end of a 1yr or almost the end last 4mo of a 2yr contract inorder to recive a free or discounted phone.also and example of a typical at&t rate plan is $39.99/mo with 600 anytime minuets unlimited mobil to mobil and unlimited nights and weekend.at&t customer service is open 24/7 cingulars is not, will cingular make a...

My wife works for SBC who has a large interest in Cingular. I should also mention that my wife is a fairly high level finance person so she is aware of the particulars.

Anyway, this is a buy out. It looks, smells and will impact AT&T customers just like it will AT&T workers.... you are left twisting in the wind wondering what happened. By all accounts I've heard, Cingular will be asking former AT&Ters to reup and not give any consideration for your months or years of service.

Good luck!

outright buy out it is, BUT, Cingular and no level of wishing.. can not ignore the contracts that AT&T has with the current customers. There are rules and reg's that they have to go by. I went through this with GTE MobileNet Texas. nothing changed.. I STILL have that GTE MobileNet contract today... Cingular even had to trade out my phone for another one "FREE" no charge.. for the changed network... but I kept the contract... sweet one that it is "for me".

So they got it all even the obligations currently in place... and any pending law suites on the books..

Also, how many STATE req. commissions will Cingular have to deal with... Bet they keep a low profile.. offer a BIG carrot to get AT&T customers to change to a Cingular branded...

It'll effect ATTWS employees in that you can expect some redundancies. There will be some layoffs, but I have no idea how many or how it will effect the deal with Convergys.

So, if I work for Cingular, does that mean that I know everything about SBC?

If you've heard rumors stating that ATT customers will be treated with no regard to their ATT service, you are incorrect. I will not go into particulars, but your info is wrong. Cingular is bending over backwards for ATT customers.

network employees wanting to switch? or employees wanting to switch networks? here's the deal with the employees... they get to keep everything they have for 12 months i believe as part of the agreements. My understanding is that after the 12 months, they will be pahsed out and/or moved to cingular job titles/pay rates.

The majority of the network employees out here want to switch to T-mo for the fact that they'll be taking over our 1900mhz network in the west. T-mo will need the best to maintain this network and who better than Cingular network folks that built it. There is an agreement where our folks will be working for T-mo to help maintain and train other T-mo network employees on the 1900mhz network for a lenght a time (forgot the specifics). But after that, who knows what'll happen. I'm seeing a lot of movement on our end already and not just on network but all across the depts. Finance, B2B, Indirect, admins, marketing.. everywhere.
