Did Cingular tethering change to AT&T?
I'm tethering a Cingular phone via Bluetooth to my Palm T|X. It worked fantastically up until about 3 weeks ago. It's sort of like a Treo split into two pieces, I loved it.
Now, it will still dial in the connection fine, but no webpages load. I've checked my Palm browser fine on WiFi. It's just the dialing through the phone that doesn't work. Also, the phone displays the globe/connected icon same as usual, just the palm won't display pages. Also, I can get online fine through the phone's browser (google maps, etc)
I'm on unlimited MediaNET, and I know I should be on a data plan, but I go online so rarely. And I know it worked on MediaNET fine before, so it wasn't the plan.
Did anything change recently with regards to dial-up setting...

None of the settings have changed for Cingular's internet access that I am aware of. More than likely they discovered you were tethering on a media net plan and shut it off. Cingular has the capability to do that, and has been pursuing those who have the wrong data plan more aggressively than they have in the past.

I was afraid of that. I guess it probably had to come to that eventually. On the bright side, I now have an even better reason to sell my Palm, cancel MediaNet, and save up for the iPhone 😁

hey man, cingular DID NOT do anything to do that, if they haddiscovered such an act you would be charged 1c per Kb, their might some setting that was updated some how and messed up the connection,
would not reccomend the iphone,
don't know if your in a 3G area or not, but honestly i would dump the treo and get a v3xx, you'll be able to do pretty much whatever you want as far as camera, bluetooth, and media player, but when it comes to tethering you can get yourself moto phone tools to tether using the gprs connection and it yield 800-900 kbps at the moment, or at least thats what i'm getting, and when the network is turned up to 3.6 Mbps you'll get even faster speeds.

I don't have a Treo. I have an awesome Palm T|X with the big screen. I only tether it to my 810i to get internet on it. It's a Treo split in half. As for the iPhone, it's not for everyone, but it's definitely for me, and I've been waiting forever for it.
