Below the dotted line, I've pasted a message I recently posted on FatWallet.com. Any of you who have - or even somewhat recently had - a prepaid Free2Go account may want to do further reading here:
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?cati ... »
and here:

For those of you unfamiliar with this plan, it was originally offered through AT&T and uses the TDMA network, which is being shut down March 31st.

Besides looking on FatWallet, anyone who'd like to read further discussions of Free2Go issues may want to check out Howard Forums.

I had a visitant come in yesterday who comes in frequently to ask me how to use his BlackJack. He brought a friend yesterday so he was posturing about how he hopes things will be so much better now that we're going back to AT&T, and that Cingular has only been a pain in his d*** since he migrated over.

After his "cool" sank in, I had the pleasure of telling him it was just a name change, and that every aspect of the former AT&T other than the name is now gone. He'll still be dealing with the same company, only under a new name. Then I showed him that his BlackJack was functioning properly, it was only user error that was causing his problems. Then he thanked me and left.

I love it when I get to do that.

Although I know it is only a name change, I do think that maybe some things will change. With new leadership comes new changes. Only time will tell...

Sadly, ralph_on_me has the outlook of many Cingular store employees. It doesn't say anything good about a company that routinely hires people who revel in trying to humiliate customers. And I always find it amazing that such an employee would publicly post a description of behavior that shows him/her up as small-minded and unprofessional.

Further, ralph_on_me's comments have nothing to do with this thread's topic, which tells me even more about him/her.

Bravo, bravo. Would you believe I've been doing this for several years now? My service was obviously acceptable to the customer since he thanked me before he left. This was service I gave to a customer that I made zero commission off of. He came in my store for help, and I gave it to him. He got pissy about how "Cingular was a pain in his d***" and how he hoped things would improve after we "went back to AT&T". I could've let him continue in his ignorance, but instead I told him that the only change our company would be going through was a name change.

It's good to know there are people like you who would rather be lied to, to be pacified. That's not what I'm here for, but if you like that kind of thing you can go talk to your loca...

There was very little relevant to your original post, by my replying to it does bring attention to those customer who need it's information. I hope they do get their refund. I, however, am tired of former AT&T customers whining about their company selling them out. It wasn't some hostile take over. AT&T made poor business choices which gave them the desire to sell. Cingular did themselves and AT&T a favor by purchasing it. Both sides benefited. Cingular gained more coverage and equipment, and form

I think what the REAL issue is that many people are simply upset about the TDMA service being discontinued. It is an ancient system. GSM was built off that ancient system & is better now. No, it is not available in some of the areas that TDMA was, but what do you expect? A company is going to make sure their product is available where it is needed. And to be quite frank, not alot of people use the service in rural areas. The amount of people using it in metro outweighs TMDA availability by alot!

AT&T surely DID make alot of bad business practices. And it WAS NOT just on the TDMA side. AT&T ran 2 networks, the same as Cingular. When they started their GSM service, people had a hay day. They gave away the farm for free practically. Towards...

maryellenmayes said and some Free2Go customers have significantly more than that in their accounts. Legally, then, because an equivalent service isn't being offered, the company has an obligation to provide customers with the option of a refund.

I think your legal expertise may be somewhat limited.

If, after being properly informed that this service would be discontinued at a future date, customers continued to load up their free2go accounts with huge balances Cingular has ZERO legal obligation to refund that balance. We have been inundated with information for more than a year with when this service would come to an end. Users were given plenty of time to choose an alternate carrier if they did not like C
