Cingular call plans - need help...
Wanted to ask this forum for some advice. Currently my 2-yr. contract with Verizon is expired (last May). I have been eyeing the new Motorola RAZR V3 with great envy, especially since the initial reviews are all glowing regarding the phone. I understand that Cingular will soon be selling this phone. Great! My contract is up and I can easily switch!
However, here is my dilemma... My current plan with Verizon is:
800 Anytime minutes
1000 Mobile-to-mobile minutes (or more, don't recall exactly)
3000 Night & weekend minutes starting at 8 p.m.! (or more, don't recall exactly)
Free long distance anywhere in the U.S.
All for $45 per month (not including taxes, etc.)
When I checked Cingular their plans...

Kega,
Try the GSM Nation 850: 850R Min., Unlimited N/W, Unlimited M2M, $59.99. That's about the closest thing to the plan you have w/VZW. It's a little more expensive, but it's still a DAMN good deal. That also allows you to add a line for $9.99 if you want and you can extend your N/W to 7 for $7 extra.
As for the V3, it hasn't shown up on my pricing list as of Oct. SOOO I'm thinkin you're probably lookin at a Nov. release at the earliest.
Thanks for the post. Yeah, those are the same numbers I came up with when I visited a Cingular store near my house and talked with a couple of the sales guys... Basically, $60 per month for what I am now paying $45 per month with Verizon, with my nites getting pushed back to 9 p.m. instead of 8 p.m.
Just the nites getting moved back to 9 p.m. is a deal breaker for me. That means to get a slightly better plan with Cingular I have to pay $67 to get nites starting at 7 p.m. or give up a whole bunch of anytime minutes to get the price "close" to what it is now...
I do appreciate your taking the time to reply though. I will just have to struggle with what I am gonna do.
I guess I was hoping that maybe someone in here w...

Thanks for your post. I don't currently have nationwide roaming, and I don't anticipate needing it in the future now that my "business travel for work" days are thankfully behind me... 😁
My current plan with Verizon is 2 1/2 years old now. Sprint was offering an even better one a couple of months ago (don't know if they still are) that met or exceeded my current plan in every respect, including 1000 anytime minutes & nites starting at 7 p.m. and it was only $50 per month! A good deal to be sure!
Anyways, it appears that the numbers for the plans that the Cingular sales guys gave me in the store are indeed the best that Cingular offers... I just wish it was more inline with what Sprint was offering or what I had now......

what is your zipcode?
Cain, 90815 if it makes a difference...

the zip code looks like it's primarily in a high to medium coverage area with VERY few low spots. You'd get nice coverage w/us.

I think he was gonna check your coverage area on the map tool....I just did that, and DAMN I wish my coverage area looked like that from Cingular.

Yeah, I know. 😁 My brother used to be with Cingular and he was very happy with the coverage. I would be too I am sure, just was looking for an equivalent plan for an equivalent price...
Funny thing is, I don't mind paying $300 to $500 for a really great phone like the RAZR V3, I just don't want to have to pay an "additional" $15 to $25 per month for the privilege of owning it...
I dunno, I will wait till th...

I already say that if they'd offered N/W with the $39.99/1000 plan they'd have had a winner, but c'est la vie!

AGREED! 😁 I can only hope...!
I would have no problem with paying more for that plan if it included nites & weekends starting at 7 p.m.
cheers,

we're able to activate it on a new account in my store. $39.99/1000 and then 9.99 a month for M2M. Still cant get nights and weekends though and that's what drives most of my potential activations either out the door, or to a non-promo plan.
Yeah, I can't live without nites & weekends either...
You figure with a 600 minute plan that only gives you about 30 mins. per day of anytime minutes (used mostly for business), so you gotta have mobile-to-mobile and nite/weekend minutes to make it thru the month if you want to chat with your friends & family...
Thanks Ralph & Disturbed, you guys have been great. I dunno what I am gonna do, but everyone on here has been very helpful.

Ok sorry, gettin late and it was so slow today I've been fightin sleep since about noon. 🤣
However, here is my dilemma... My current plan with Verizon is:

Closest we would have would be:
600 anytime ROLLOVER Minutes
UNLIMITED Mobile to mobile mins.
UNLIMITED Night and weekend mins. (start at 9PM)
NO ROAMING OR LONG DISTANCE charges.
All for $49.99 (you could start your nights and weekends at 7 for $7 more)
One question - you get 800 minutes, but how many do you USE? If you are only using 500, then with Cingular you would be saving the...

I just hate having to pay 25% "more" ($57 vs. $45) to get -25% "less" (600 vs. 800) anytime minutes, albeit with nites starting at 7 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. (that is nice).
Thanks again,
kega
It will cost you a little more but here's what you get:
59.99 Nation Coverage No LD charges and No Roaming Charges.
850 anytime w/rollover
Unlimited Nationwide Mobile to Mobile
Unlimited Nights and Weekends starting at 9pm
My guess is that you don't use all those minutes on your VZW plan so you could try this:
49.99 600 anytime w/rollover
Nation wide No Roaming No LD charges.
Unlimited m2m
Unlimited NW starting at 9pm
if you need your nw minutes to start earlier you can add 7pm for 7 bucks.
Either one of the plans offer you more total minutes than what you currently have, and if my guess is right, that old plan doesn't have National M2M. So, it may cost you a few more dollars f...

Thank you for your post. I think that is the same plan Disturbed1 suggested as well (see my reply to him).
My original reason for posting this was that I was hoping that maybe someone in here worked for Cingular and could tell me that they had "inside" information that in the near future Cingular was gonna be coming out with some new plans. That does not seem to be the case so I am left struggling as to what to do.
However, I do appreciate you and everyone else taking the time to post a reply.
Thanks again,
