😳 FACT OR FICTION? THAT ON A NATIONAL NO ROAMING NETWORK PLAN ON CINGULAR THAT IF YOU ARE NOT IN A COVERAGE AREA, INSTEAD OF ROAMING YOU DO NOT HAVE SERVICE AT ALL?

AND IT IS BEYOND ME, BUT WHY WOULD YOU STATE WHERE YOUR FUTURE COBVERAGE IS GOING TO BE?... TO MAKE YOUR COVERAGE MAP SEEM MORE SUPERIOR THAN SOME COMPETITORS?

TAKE A LOOK SEE!!

Yeah.. that makes no sense. On a National plan, wherever there's GSM coverage (in the states), you'll have coverage (if you have a 850/1900mhz phone)

Fact, your phone either works or it doesn't. Our phones can't roam on the old analog networks, only the newer GSM ones. The downside is we have to build a new network, but the positive is we don't have to worry about a drop off of features in any areas. IMO we put the future coverage on the maps to kind of show the customer that we are expanding this thing. It's like saying "Yeah, we know it's small now but it's still growing." *pushes the image of Austin Powers' penis pump out of his head* The network has been growing pretty rapidly since our area got GSM (last october), but I know there may always be areas of no service. If you're in the desert of Nevada... sorry, you're screwed. Big Bend national park? well just ask the government...

GAIT phones? those get great reception, but they'll drop your call when switching between technology types. I've also found it useful to have customers power cycle their phone after traveling with those to make them readjust to which tower they're using. The Nokia 6340 was good (except for the power button), but I couldn't stand the Sony Ericsson T62U.

What company are you with? I wasn't aware we had any other phones that work off both networks.

Basicly with cingular you don't get charged roaming so there are no roaming areas on the map. If you are in a area that Cingular has agreements with t-Mobile or AWS you can use those towers without paying roaming. There are areas that noone has GSM or Cingular can't get roaming areements with those companys that do and that is unfortunate but unavoidable. Cingular is expanding its coverage extreamly quickly and is already comparable some competitors and will soon be competitave to all.

It's already competitive with ALL. Cingular has the largest VOICE/DATA network in the US. VZW has a SLIGHTLY larger VOICE area, but that will change when the buyout goes thru.

Fact... Cingular is the ONLY company that does not charge to roam off of other networks (on their GSM rate plans) National means national. If Cingular, AT&T or T-mobile has coverage where Cingular does not, then you can roam off of their network at no charge... but like someone else said, if their is no coverage, then there is no coverage... get over it...

--- And the reason the new map shows FUTURE coverage is because they are in the process of buying AT&T wireless and the two already have roaming agreements, but it will be THEIR network in a few months.

AWS doesn't charge you on the new National plans either.
