asiatic1982

Starting in Mid-Late April all new devices sold will have the new ATT alpha tags. Network teams will work to update everyone's phones starting late april-early may. They are hoping for about 800,00-1,000,000 a night, so it will prob take 2-3 months to complete.

The alpha tags are controlled by the local tower it is running on. Selling new devices would have no bearing on what alpha tag the device displays.

Is that not correct?

It's on CSP. All new activations will have an att alpha tag mid april (I think it was the 15th).

The post on CSP also went on to explain that all devices will have the att alpha tag "later this year". There was no firm committment date on when existing customers will be "switched" to the att tag.

Sounds like all "new" phones will simply read the Cingular network ID and display "AT&T". The stuff done by hand sounds like tower updates.

Correct but what they are saying is that the new activations will come with ATT alpha tag. They will not be programmed OTA with Cingy

It was on CSP yesterday. Go to the bottom left of CSP and copy the number. It'll bring the article up.

When the alpha tags are updated for existing customers, will this be done by region? Is there a roll out schedule?

Supposed to be natiowide by October at the latest, they are hoping more for a June/July timeframe. Supposedly it was going to be launched by regions, but I have not heard a timeline for which regions would be switched when. Basically, then information we were given was that its coming, be aware of it, not a lot of details.

For the new "at&t" Alpha Tags for existing customers, has this process started in any part of the country yet?
