Curious, if I have my own GSM phone, how will this affect the contract?
I've got a nice new sony-ericsson gsm phone and my contract with ATTW just expired. I'm considering switching over to cingular, but don't want to be tied to a contract, or at the very least only a year deal.
Does Cingular still require a 2 year even if I have my own phone?
Is it worth switching to Cingular from ATTW, or should I just upgrade from TDMA to GSM with ATT and my new phone and live through the transfer?
thanks.

Cingular NEVER requires more than a 1 year contract unless you're dealing in terms of handset prices. Of course if you have your own phone that's not an issue.
There's a new kind of pre-paid service coming on Nov. 1st that ACTS like postpaid called Take Charge. It draws directly from a checking account that has electronic debit capability or a credit card. Stay tuned for details, or ask your friendly neighborhood Cingular Rep.

Take charge is available in some markets if not all by now. It's an awesome prepaid type service with many of the advantages offered only in post paid service. It reminds me a bit of the GO service offered by ATTWS, but has a few advantages.

we're just hearin about it in our market. And as an agent my company's not releasing it until Nov. It's a hell of a concept and will probably take prepaid to a new level. Hopefully we'll roll it out seamlessly here in good ole market 35.
