sort of new here. I was recently at a cingular store, because where i moved to verizon doesn't work well. So i was asking about the Iphone to the cingular employees. They said they weren't getting it, and that cingular may not get it as well. They said there was problems with having the ability to have free Wifi and not being able to charge for it. As well as training all of the cingular employees how to use and fix the iphone. They were pretty adament about talking me out it the whole time I was there. Thought that was interesting figure i would share

It is coming. They just wanted a sale right then for a phone that is currently available. You can have your iPhone in June...

I don't know they weren't to admit about selling it or anything. They said they were told they weren't getting them in the store.

Well, we are getting them the second week of June in NYC metro! You can get one from any of my retail stores.

Do not listen to people who just work in the stores because they do not usually know anything unless they are knowledgeable, but the IPHONE is coming to AT&T/Cingular and to Massachusetts.

The iphone is comming yes, however Steve Jobs wants control of distibution. As far as I have been told only COR stores and Apple retail locations will carry it.

It will not be available through the agent channel, which stinks. We service more customers than the COR channel anyway.

Will you be able to use the built in Wifi for calling, or is cingular going to cripple that. So that you can only use it with a data plan.

We already have phones in the line up with wifi built in. Cingular does nothing to cripple it's functionality.

As for using a VOIP client, that would be up to what programs you can load on your phone. VOIP through the data connect plan is prohibited, but there's nothing in the TOS about using it through wifi.

Right now it's just that one. There have been iPaq models which also had it. Sadly, the 9300 didn't have it... 😢

I think that's going to be a hot issue, is having built in Wifi. Especially when Wimax comes around

Wimax is not in the same category as wifi. Wifi is a short range access to the internet using repeaters and Wimax is a data upgrade for the cell networks that can reach miles.

Corporate stores and Apple stores will have the iPhone. National retailers, agent stores, anything else indirect will not get the phone. They may have been an agent and correct in saying they won't get it.

This was a smaller store but they only sold cingular stuff..
Also how is cingular going to regulate the wifi.
That is one reason that i think will be great if it's going to be free. Will ATT criple this function. Becasuse if it's free whose to say i can't use voip over, and get a cheap cingular plan.

yeah, it's an operating systme most people are very familiar with, the devices that utilize it are more high powered than any Palm OS, or BB OS you can find.....

The iphone is the first of the sort, will prob have just as many bugs if not more as any windows mobile device, will be all touch screen so i can only imagine the lag when using the onscreen keyboard....

no 3G
no changable battery
mac is not a proven phone manufacturer.

I am sure it has its benefits..I'll be very impressed when I can find a winmo device that I don't have to pull the battery out of after it's become unresponsive or performs with any degree of snappiness or doesn't drain the battery like it's the devices job.. The devices have to be robust just to run the OS

And I agree all Rev1 products are prone to bugs...Have you used an iphone? I will also speculate that new lexus hybrid is a dog performance wise.. I mean its a hybrid..

yes lack of 3G is a bummer..but it is the 1st model... and 3G coverage isn't wowing anyone at this point..When I can actually use 3g inside a building then I'll consider it a real handicap for the iphone

Battery thing is a head scratcher I can only assum...

i'm just used to pullin the battery about once a week with windows mobile devices......so it doesn't bother me that much(b/c its expected)

but the devices are usually far more capable...

????where are you at.. i never loose my 3G signal, in fact i can usually keep it a lot longer...(in south florida)

I'm near Philly.. I ended up just turning off 3G on my BJ for battery reasons and because it would just flip to edge when online indoors..and while I'm outside my v3xx gets 3G but when I head indoors it will usually flip back and forth just inside but then flip to edge after about 15 feet when I'm using data..perhaps it's not complete here.. or in some of the other places I've been in.. or there is a setting on the Moto to pull just 3G.. who knows.. It will be nice when its ubiquitous..

There isn't a single feature that the 8525 will have over the iPhone. Lets be honest here.

well here's a few

1. the phone is released and available.

2. UMTS/HSDPA

3. Full qwerty keyboard(seperate from main display, i'm pretty sure the touch screen keyboard will be a pain) if it's not then thumbs up to MAC.

4. expandable memory

5. changable battery

6. editing capabilities for Word and Excel docs.

the question is...what advantages are there to the iphone(other than size) over the 8525???

Since we're being honest 😉

It's just the general use of the Iphone i think. Macs just work and they are easy to use, and myself I have a Macbookpro. It's the best thing ever. I used to have a p.c. The ability to have your itunes and music will be great.
But the touch screen where you have to look?? That's not going to be to good while driving where most people are used to tactile feelings on there phones...

Report First Day Apple Iphone
1 million car accidents people kept looking at there Iphones hah

1 its an ipod

2 it has a REAL browser (safari)

3 full html email

4 OS X not Windows PPC

5 Multi Touch screen not a stylus

6 Proximity sensor (It knows when its close to your ear and it turns the screen off)

7 iPhone accelerometer knows when you turn it sideways and brings it into landscape mode

8 Visual Voice mail

9 iPhoto

on and on and on

keep your 3g for your poorly rendered IE pages.

2 it has a REAL browser (safari) wow real browser, i'd love to see a FAKE one...

3 full html email well good for it....

4 OS X not Windows PPC (you must not be a fan of microsoft, i'm sorry too confusing for you?

5 Multi Touch screen not a stylus (they're both touch screen, only thing i'm waiting to see is someone dialing in their car with out a reference to feel on the phone)

6 Proximity sensor (It knows when its close to your ear and it turns the screen off) wow, my screen turns off for me after 15 secs if i want it to, and doesn't press any buttons against my face, that is if i'm not using bluetooth....

Can someone be this far gone from reality?

Its an iPod and a video ipod so it plays all video and music plus picture slide show content in iTunes. Your 8525 can't do that.

It has a real bowser because it doesn't use Mobile web settings and doesn't render pages to be Mobile phone friendly the iPhone displays web pages exactly like your computer displays them using REAL browsers: IE, Opera, Firefox, Safari -- NOT mobile IE or mobile Opera

Can't beat the full html point huh?

Actually, I have had plenty of experience with Microsoft and my preference on my OS being easy to use, stable, capable, and beautiful is just that -- my preference

If you can't dial and drive ... then don't dial and drive -- do you slide out your crappy lit...

My GOD, you guys are some die hard apple fans, i tell you what.....

The phone is outdated and it's not even released yet....

It lacks a Third Generation technology, which will prove to be its one big hold up

K you said it i didn't, mobile FRIENDLY internet, if you don't have the broadband power capabilities in the phone, then why bog it down with full size pages????(just to be cool, huh? it's just stupid and don't care to discuss it anymore,

everything you said about songs, video and slide shows the 8525 can do, but not in itunes? awe are you lost without i tunes?

on the 8525, i just use voice dial to dial while in the car.... the slide out keyboard is a qwerty board, not for dialing smart azz....

wow, i can see the mess...

Seems like a lot of people have strong opinions about this device.. 😉

I won't debate the issue on the tech iPhone vs 8525 each has its strong points and a weaknesses..

But I will bet JJ, that for better or worse.. the iPhone outsells the 8525 by a mile by December. a long mile. 😉

People are fickle, i'm just trying to let people know that for the amount of money they will be spending on the iphone, they could have a device that is more powerful and capable....
