Since there was legislation passed that all phones can be unlocked, will the iphone get away with keeping it with Att and not letting me take it to t-mobile?

Everyone with the iPhone questions just needs to chill. You know as much as we do, which is little to none. The damn things is not released yet. Even more, the things has no specifics released. Come June ask questions.

I'm sorry, but maybe you're the one who needs to chill. Of course there are questions. It's the most anticipated phone of the year. If you don't know the answer or don't have anything nice to say, just don't post anything dude! Let's make this room better than the others (no drama, rudeness) 😉 It's the ATT room. We're better! 😉

The unlocking rule is actually covered under copyright law and is directed more to the end user than the carrier. It gives the end user the right to unlock the phone.
The carrier/OEM still has the right to lock it.

I am assuming Apple/Cingular will lock this phone and not provide any assistance to unlock it. (and they dont have to).

You have the right to find someone who can unlcock it and do what you want with it after purchase.

Worst thing to do to a phone is unlock it. Most things might work fine, but there's going to be one crucial thing that doesn't and never will work. That's the catch. Every phone can be unlocked, but it won't work properly... either you won't be able to text or you won't get your voicemail or you won't be able to use the internet. There's always going to be a glitch. I either switch to Cingular if you want the phone that badly or deal with whatever phones your company carries. It's not worth spending $500+ to not have the phone work properly.

You sir are wrong, dead wrong. I have used many many many unlocked phones in my day. I have not had a single feature not work the exact way its supposed to be with the alternate carriers. I may need to take a few extra minutes to install the internet/mms features but all is well.

I have an unlocked Treo 650 with T-mobile and EVERYTHING works. MMS messages, Voicemail, internet everything.

Its too presumptive to say that a phone won't work properly and I know hundreds of users on here will readily agree with me that they are able to get their unlocked phones working in every aspect as well.
