Need help. Currently on ATT GSM (3+ year old plan)
I have great plan, nothing out there like it. Business plan. I need new equipment for 2 lines. Do I have any restrictions for wich phone will/won't work with my current SIM card? I don't want to upgrade to new cingular plans.
Has anyone encoutered similar situation?
All and any feedback is appreciated.

Encountered on a daily basis, usually they force you to a current plan. Your current SIM can be switched, that is no problem. It won't work with any UMTS phones so you will need a new one if you look at any of those. Almost any store will force you to a Cingular Nation plan, your best chance is through Telesales.

Telesales doesn't do upgrades though, only new activations. I think his best bet is to buy an unlocked phone somewhere and put his SIM in it.

yes true he can buy an unlocked device .....but per the meeting i had on friday all attws customers who are unwilling to switch to cingular/the new att will be shut off effective 1/08 so i dont know how much money id sink into phones that you can only use for 8 months

But if you buy an unlocked phone, you can use it now AND whenever you are "forced" to switch to a new ATT plan. I've bought several unlocked phones from big-volume ebay sellers (Wireless Experts and Zoom cells) and directly from MOtorola with discount coupons. I have a very old ATT contract (business) that I really like. I won't migrate until I have to. I have 4 lines on a family plan.

I understand buying and unlocked phone for an old attws plan but if he switches then he will have to be on some sorta contract why not tak ethe discounts he gets for that ? and to clarify something we are not forcing him to do anything he may come over to the new company as we would like him to do ! or he can go elsewhere his contract has been fullfilled

I thought his original question was about new equipment with an old plan. I agree: if he wants to migrate, yes, get the equipment discount for a new ATT phone and plan. I'm not sure that's what he was asking about, though. Anyway, I think it's been determined that he actually has a Cinguar plan, after all.

You need to buy an unlocked phone if you wish to keep your plan as long as possible. No options to upgrade at this point without changing your plan that I am aware.

I talked to him and it turns out he's not on an AT&T plan, just a FT Nation 1250. That he could keep.
