WiMax vs HSDPA

Given the upgradability of HSDPA, which one is faster? As fas as speed, I think HSDPA has the advantage, but is so, why is WiMAX considered 4G if it is slower?

Howzabout we wait until a WiMax network goes live? I'd be willing to bet that WiMax is faster than the faster 7.2mbps HSPA, but even that standard is supposed to be improving. Then there's real world test speeds (and not a lot of reports have come back about being able to actually get 7.2 mbps).

Bottom line - no one knows yet.

The projected speeds for WiMax at launch are about 4 Mbps. That means I'm expecting it to be slower than that.

Theoretically they can be much higher than that.

Theoretically I could've been born a girl.

because HSDPA is GSM cingular and GSM cingular suks remeber when attws had tdma 2g phones and sprint was already on cdma3g...yeah remember that and remix it into the future with hsdpa with wimax...wimax will be waaaay faster than hsdpa. again this isnt based on quantitative facts..just a qualitative history repeats theory.

People will be flying, not cars or planes.

Now, HSDPA is actually WCDMA, not GSM. When was Sprint ever better than Cingular, AT&T, or Verizon? It's possible that some day they may become the best, but they're not nor have they ever been. I've been using cell phones much longer than I've been selling them, and that's just always been the truth.

Actually HSPA+ is expected to cap out at 28mbps. HSDPA alone caps out at 14.4mbps.

I'll take that bet.. Everything I have read says the sprint rollout will be 2-4 Mbps..yawn.. Cingular hasn't even turned up 7.2.. they are self regulating to 1.8Mbps peak....
