GSM vs TDMA quality

I am frustrated with GSM voice/signal quality, am I alone? I have Cingular service with a Blackberry 8700 and an old TDMA Nokia. I always chose the Nokia to talk because the Blackberry is so bad, it is weak, it breaks up and drops calls. The Nokia sounds like a landline. Cingular will soon discontinue TDMA service, is there anything good to go to with any carrier? Seems like technology is going backward! Thanks.

Its probably because the 8700 isn't the best phone for call clarity. Try the new 8800 you should notice a difference.

Thanks, I will give it a shot though I've noticed the same problem with my daughter's Motorola V-55.

Well, the gsm system we use is only 6 years old and for the most part has only been built out for the last 2 years so there is still room for improvement. TDMA however had 2 decades to perfect its buildout and was great for voice services. If at&t had not switched to gsm they would be left in the dust on the data side of the business and would have gone under. Things are only getting better.

p.s. Motorolas suck.

Correction. Motorola's sucked. The v3xx is quite possibly the best phone Cingular offers right now.

with the exception of the phonebook memory error i've seen on a few of them... for some reason after 100 or so entries the phonebook says it's out of memory. it maybe a bit more than 100, but i've seen it now on 4 different phones... but other than that, great phone. i want one.

GSM call clarity can't be matched. Where are you located?

I am located in Portland ME. Maybe my biggest problem is the BB 8700, it shows a great signal but always sounds like I'm on the fringe of coverage.
