I GOT MY ALPHA TAG TO SAY AT&T.........TRUE STORY
I keep hearing that on new activations the new alpha tag shows............so I mocked a new activation..........I called customer care and told them that I needed to updated my IMEI number.....so they delted my old IMEI and I simply read it dirctly from the back of my phone (the exact same #.....) and it took about 25 minutes....but I left my phone off for a bit and now it displays "AT&T". đ
Just fyi for those (im not alone LOL) that wanna see at&t dispalyed on there phones because for some reason it's 'cool'......guess im strange LOL.

Is this something I can do with my account online, or can I call the store..or do I need to call customer service..I have an unlocked phone not carried by Cingular, but I also have another Cingular branded phone, same manufacturer, that I can give them the IMEI number from that phone. But does the IMEI switch have to be done over the phone??

mine says it and i didnt even have to updat my imei. it has said at&t for about 2 weeks now. and i havent changed phones in a month.

i had mine say it since the day after they changed it... and i've been showing everyone.

When the start changing the alpha tag for other existing customers, will it be phased in by region?

who knows...........but it's a 5 minute call to customer care to delete your IMEI#, have it added back and keep your phone off for about 10-15 minutes so it can be updated in the switch......and bam AT&T!

They started changing everyone on the 15th of April and everyone will be saying AT&T by mid-May.

Where is everyone located? Mine hasn't changed at all. I'm in the Bay Area. Do I need to just removed the SIM and put it back in?

Try again. Maybe rep didnt know what they were doing. I used a phone's IMEI that I knew for a fact wasn't on my account (my recently acquired S710a). Then I turned my phone off for 15 minutes. When I turned it back on, it was AT&T.

May not be loaded yet for your number range. Just wait. You don't need to change ANYTHING for this to work.

I called last Friday and updated the IMEI on my unlocked/unbranded Maxx v6. Turned off phone and then back on 20 minutes later. Nothing. Still said Cingular. Then a bright lightbulb went off yesterday: I remembered that when I edited the software on the phone, I enabled it to read the alpha tag from the phone (meaning tower) and not SIM card (meaning phone). So I went back in and changed it back to the original value (read from SIM) and voila! Now my phone says "AT&T". Branded/locked phones may have different results but those of you advanced enough with an unbranded/unlocked might want to give it a try.
