Affordable Plans - Rant

I work for a Cingular dealer in Connecticut and I can't get over the fact that they got rid of the $29.99 250 anytime, 1000 night and weekend minute plan! Not everyone is using their phone like crazy, and pre-paid plans are just rip-offs. Cingular would really gain a lot more business by bringing that plan back. Does anyone agree?

Cingular obviously doesn't think that kind of "business" is good for them. And nor does Verizon Wireless apparently.

I just ran some quick numbers...250 minutes for $30 comes out to $.12/minute while 450 minutes for $40 comes out to $.088/minute. Not to mention the $40 plan has 4000 more n/w minutes and free mobile to mobile included. I'm not really sure how a plan w/ a higher per minute charge and less included extras would lose Cingular money.

Personally I think its because they want their ARPU to look better as a metric and the $30 plans drag it down.

OH no free roaming, they have service in almost every metropolitan area in the US and for an extra five bucks I think you can roam anywhere in the us. I think you can get just about everything every other provider has for about 65 dollars, I know people who live in phoenix and went to new york and have used their phone.
Let me ask you this if you bought a light bulb and left it on all month it will only use so much electric.
If you pressed send on your cell it will only use so much miniutes. After all there are only so many minutes in a month.
My point is they know how much it cost, they are only at an advantage cause everyone wants it.
If they were not making money they would be out of bussiness.
But they are not, they are going str...

Besides I bet most people do not leave their home ares!

Lots of people travel.

You can roam with cricket, but they only allow 200 minutes of roaming on certain packages. There is no unlimited roaming.

Yes, But the point is the majority of your month or billing period, is unlimited.
If you think about it that is a good deal.
If it were possible it could be aprox 43200 minutes.
But you can't stay awake all night and day.
I think if you look at your bill most people talk during the day, cause even the other cell companys if you think about it free night and weekends, that is about 13600 min a month, And they are still making money. And Are still in business.
So why cant they give you a little more?

Because competition does not dictate they need to provide more minutes.

Cricket fits the need of some, Cingular/Verizon fit the needs of more.

I think until Cricket can compete nationally, in all top 100 markets as well provide coverage to at least 260+ million people will you actually see the top carriers worry about it. its when people actually stop paying 10-20 a month for unl txt or 199.99 a month for 6000 min is when they will come out wtih unlimited plans. Cingular and Verizon only align their business to their closest competitors and since Cricket is not a close competitor they will nto change their plans.

it costs cingular roughly $32-$33 dollars per customer per month. Therefore, the loss possibility on a $30 plan is not appealing. They make a huge chunk of there revenue on the "extras" ie texting, insurance, all the stupid add-ons.

If taht were true, then a family plan with 5 lines would cost $165.00, but I have seen accounts that bring in less

Cingular offers many options for service, including monthly plans as low as $29.99 and a phone for $20 with said plan. Cingular would not gain profitable customers by offering a published $29.99 contract plan. Take out the billing costs (Go Phone) and they are ok but a billed plan has too many costs.

Sorry, don't really agree with you on this one.

As an indirect dealer I am glad its no longer available. The compensation after phone subsidy was less than go phones! Unless of course you wanted to advertise a special price for these plans in particular, but the alternative still made customers angry. 🙄
