Pay-as-you-go phone coverage

I was thinking about getting a Cingular Pay-as-you-go phone, but the PAYG coverage where I live is LOUSY and LIMITED to say the least (I live in WV and the only coverage I'm seeing is on I-64 from Charleston heading west)! What I was wondering was if anybody knows if you can roam off network. Contract Cingular customers have OUTSTANDING coverage, just about all over the state! By-the-month GoPhoners have pretty good coverage and if it's still like it was when I had a by-the-month plan with AT&T, then they can roam and still make and take calls and send normal texts. Does anybody on here have a pay-as-you-go phone? Can somebody tell me what happens when you go off network? Are you just screwed with no coverage or can you roam? HELP!!

On PAYG, there is no roaming, you are limited to a Cingular owned network, which is smaller
