Why does Cingular have the most subscribers in America? Alltel has: the larges footprint, caller friendly plans, and the best customer service(JD power&associates). Still cingular has the most customers in America. It really blows my mind!!

The same thing here in Tulsa-their commercials run a lot but no Alltel in Tulsa (but there is service in OKC). It's called national advertising.

Alltel is CDMA not GSM. Yes they have a large footprint but its on the CDMA network. I'd personally never go CMDA

So what would happen if Alltel bought out a company like lets say..... Amp'd or Metro PCS. Either of those companies would put us in all metro areas like Atlanta, LA, New York, and so on and so on. What would happen to their customer population then? 🤤

Amp'd is an MVNO with no network of it's own. Therefore, Alltel would be in the same situation it is in now.

They may have "the largest footprint" but that doesnt mean they can activate someone just anywhere they say they have coverage in. Remember, they only have the largest footprint becuase of roaming agreements with other wireless companies I beleive. They have a small service region in which they are allowed to sell their service in which is why their not number 1

Because they sell in places like the Dakotas, West Texas, Wyoming, and Idaho. Huge places that don't have many people living in them.

When I had Verizon like 4 years ago my T720 was always roaming. It'd pick up moslty Alltel and sometimes Sprint. I used to love dialing 611 while I knew I was roaming just to see who I was roaming with. Once I dialed 611 while I was roaming in analog and I was roaming on Cingular 🤨 I thought that was hillarious!

Because Alltel covers millions of square miles of NOTHING (farms, fields, freeways but no people) and companies like Verizon and Cingular have more metropolitan coverage.

Alltel - Number one service for owners of Cattle.

It is funny reading this post, I have to laugh because as i read it I noteced that everybody is answering their own question, how they can be the largest, because of roaming.
But it is confusing if you really belive the comericals cause they all say they are the largest in one way or another, ie the guy being followed buy thousands of network people, can you hear me know, uh no!
Anyway I know somebody who got their phone in phoenix az, moved to fresno ca, and their phone worked, they wanted to get a fresno number so people would not have to call them long distance, well no, alltel did not have a presence in fresno, so they could not get a new #, so they wanted to cansel their service so they could get a carrier witch could provide them wit...
